Universal Coach Institute Review

I think it’s a great program, here’s why:

Reason #1 – Coach Ayisha (owner and mentor)

Whether you decide to pursue any training with Universal Coach Institute or not, I highly recommend signing up to their email list for the 5 Day Challenge To Create A 1K to 10K Coaching Program free ecourse. Coach Ayisha’s emails are invaluable as they are jam-packed with information. Doing this will allow you to experience Coach Ayisha as a teacher and help decide whether she is a good fit for you or not.

Reason #2 – The Extensive Amount of Tools and Client Handouts

This is an invaluable resource. For those who are unfamiliar with the coaching process or the business aspect of coaching, there is an enormous amount of paperwork involved. Typically this paperwork comes in the form of coaching tools or exercises to be used with clients, legal papers and agreements, personal tracking, and finance paperwork.

If you were to purchase similar resources elsewhere you will be looking at $100+, and it is all included in the Life and Transformational Coach Certification Program. I have made a list of the handouts below.

Overview

Coach Training Alliance firmly believes education will not take place inside a box just like a classroom or inside a hotel conference room. We establish mastery through practice and actively engaging in our thoughts rather than inside a seminar/workshop stressing the knowledge transfer of theories and mechanics. After all, you wouldn’t become a professional tennis player by watching the game on television or a world-renowned piano player by just playing the piano. It takes practice. Coaching is no different.

The Human Capital Coaching program is constructed to regularly and consistently improve your ability to coach others in an organization. Classes are conducted via a live conference call. in a seductive setting, with a maximum of 12 students, to allow for individual attention, connection with class peers and an environment of focused learning. The weekly calls are 1.5 hours in length and highly interactive: 10% presentation, 40% discussion and 50% live coaching with authentic work situations.

If you miss a class (or portion of a class) recordings are available to participants only, however, requirements for certification and graduation stipulate that participants miss no more than two total classes.

In addition to the live training, you can reference the course material to fuel your experience, inspire your personal growth and strengthen your coaching skills. Additional reading and out of classroom exercises are fully related to your day-to-day responsibilities and makeup approximately 1 -1.5 hours per week. Become a certified Human Capital Coach in just 12 weeks.

Acquire coaching skills encouraged by today’s top leaders. Learn proven techniques to help co-workers solve response to change, challenges and create opportunities. Create meaningful contributions in planning sessions and performance reviews. Efficiently support others and become more effective in time-management.

Have you ever felt stuck? Learn techniques and strategies to overcome challenges and move beyond setbacks. Nurture new skills to help others do the same. Invest in your own personal development.

Contribute to groups and organizations inside a meaningful way. engage, clients, support individuals and Motivate.

Develop the abilities essential to lead organizations. Find the skills required by top management.

Human Capital Coaching Workshops and Strategies

In addition to your evolved ability to coach, the Human Capital Coaching Program will help you create a clear communication process to introduce, implement and support an internal coaching initiative. Regardless if you are working as an outside consultant or an employee, the training will help you set the stage for internal coaching.

From leadership development to Human Resources training, Coach Training Alliance strives to prepare you to be always a coach that may develop business talent and mould them to suit your company’s goals. In only 3 months, you are going to gain a good amount of knowledge; enough to jump-start your job in life coaching.

Get Trained. Get Certified. Develop Talent.

Human Capital Coaches know how to use coaching skills, within the context of organizational progression, to effectively utilize the data and creativity which exists inside your organization. Coaches support individual employees or organizational clients, managers and departments in meeting their strategic goals and aligning the talent of the average person using the goals and strategies of the business.

Solution To A Weakness

One of the major weaknesses I see in Transformation Academy’s Certified Entrepreneurship and Business Life Coach program is the lack of practical, real-world business integration. Slapping up a website, and calling yourself a coach, will not get you paying clients.

Thankfully there’s an affordable solution to this. If we combine this program with Transformation Academy’s Coaching Business MASTERCLASS (5+ Courses in 1) of teaching you how to actually attract paying clients then I think we have ourselves a win.

Here’s a quick overview of Transformation Academy’s Coaching Business MASTERCLASS (5+ Courses in 1):

  • How to stop wasting time and money
  • Structure your coaching
  • Identify your ideal coaching niche
  • Target your tribe of ideal clients
  • Create life coaching packages
  • Use free introductory sessions
  • 3 marketing strategies that ACTUALLY WORK
  • Leverage other people’s clients/audience
  • Speak in front of an audience of your ideal clients
  • Write marketing copy for your elevator pitch
  • Run digital marketing campaigns

Frequestly Asked Questions

Their program has been updated and much improved in my opinion. I will leave my original answer from a question I received, but it no longer stands as accurate.

The most critical feedback I had regarding their program in the past has been resolved.

Lacking course feedback has been cleared up with me by Ayisha herself, and is a non-issue.

Lacking live coaching practice has also been resolved.

I can honestly say I would recommend their program as an extremely viable option now

*Original answer:

I took the transformational life coaching certification. I don’t think it was worth my time, I stopped going through the modules about half way through for this reason. Granted, I wasn’t a beginner to coaching or many of the subjects that were taught within the curriculum.

I had already taken the NLP certification from iNLP prior to this, which was definitely worth my time and money. I cannot say the same for UCI. Keep in mind, this is just my opinion, but I wouldn’t want to be coached by anyone who got their certification from UCI.

Worried about accreditation?

Many people over concern themselves with credentials (in my opinion). Ask yourself this:

Would you rather invest in a coach (not accredited by the ICF) who was referred to you based on that referring person having had amazing results or a coach accredited by the ICF who has little evidence of producing real-world results?

My Definition of a personal development book

A personal development book to me is any book that contains information with the purpose of influencing a direct personal transformation within the reader.

This could come in the form of a typical personal development book like Awaken The Giant Within by Tony Robbins or a less typical, more metaphysical approach like The Inside Out Revolution by Michael Neill.

Whether a certain book will resonate with us or not largely depends on what journey we are on and where we are in our journey.

Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life

By Byron Katie

352 Pages

What is this book about?

For reference, I will call her Katie, as apparently that is what she prefers.

The premise of this book is to dissolve our sense of self, our ego, in light of a higher awareness. She teaches us that all suffering is optional and is created by our confusion and resistance to what is. She shows us a path toward love oppose to pain or suffering.

Katie teaches us to do this by way of thought inquiry through a very powerful set of questions she calls “The Work”.

The four questions this book (The Work) revolves around are:

1. Is it true?

2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?

3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?

4. Who would you be without the thought?

Using the four questions, here’s an example using the statement “My husband should understand me.”

1. Is it true? Is it true that he should understand you? Be still. Wait for the heart’s response.

2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?

Ultimately, can you really know what he should or shouldn’t
understand? Can you absolutely know what is in his best interest to understand?

3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought? What happens when you believe “My husband should understand me” and he doesn’t?

Do you experience anger, stress, or frustration? How do you treat your husband? Do you give him “the look”? Do you try to change him in any way? How do these reactions feel? How do you treat yourself? Does that thought bring stress or peace into your life? Be still as you listen.

4. Who would you be without the thought?

Close your eyes. Picture yourself in the presence of your husband in this situation. Now imagine looking at your husband, just for a moment, without the thought “My husband should understand me.” What do you see? What would your life look like without that thought?

Katie takes you on a journey to the depth of your being by discussing the power of her inquiry through love and selflessness.

This discussion is mixed with examples of The Work through transcripts of real inquiries she has done with people. These examples are amazing, as you can truly see the power of The Work in action.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

In my opinion, the goal of most self-improvement and personal development books with a spiritual undertone is to dissolve the ego. To go beyond our sense of self and experience some level of transcendence.

Most appear to fail at doing this for one main reason, they lack simplicity. And that brings me to what I love most about this book…its’ simplicity!

As I went through this book over the course of a couple of weeks, and several weeks thereafter, I would constantly catch myself doing The Work in my head when I recognized a thought that wasn’t serving me.

This book really taught me that just the simple act of questioning our thoughts is enough to see through all our made-up bull shit.

Who would I recommend this book for?

EVERYONE.

Seriously…everyone. There is not one single human being on this earth that could not benefit from this book.

A Mind At Home With Itself

By Byron Katie

304 Pages

What is this book about?

This book is an extension of my #1 choice, Loving What Is. It is more or less a series of transcripts from real inquires Katie had with people.

If you are interested in Katies’ work, I recommend you read Loving What Is before you read this book. Loving What Is will give a much deeper understanding of what she calls “The Work”, whereas this book gives plenty of examples of The Work in action.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

See my answer to the same question under Loving What Is.

Who would I recommend this book for?

Anyone who has read Loving What Is by Byron Katie and has an interest in her work.

The Relationship Handbook: A Simple Guide To Satisfying Relationships

By George Pransky

246 Pages

What is this book about?

Relationships! However, this is NOT your typical relationship book. It is original, unique, and like no other. There’s nothing to work on, just a different understanding.

I heard about it from many coaches and facilitators that stem from the Three Principles understanding of Mind, Consciousness, and Thought. As the author of this book, Dr. George Pransky is one of the pioneers of this life-transforming understanding.

This book points us inward, toward responsibility and the inside-out nature of relationships and relationship problems.

Problems aren’t to be dealt with, they are to be transcended. George shows us exactly how this is done, no matter the problem.

Many of us overanalyze our relationship problems and our relationships as a whole. George points us back toward the simplicity of relationships and all they en-tale.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

My wife is very analytical, and this analysis is quite typical of our disagreements. Whereas I’m quite simple, however, I typically get sucked into the analysis because I didn’t know how to effectively direct the conversation toward simplicity. More so, I didn’t know how to create enough value in simplicity for her to even entertain the idea!

This book gave me that direction, that missing link between my thoughts and words.

It wasn’t long after I read this book that my wife and I had a bit of a squabble. Our back and forth was going the way it normally would until I remembered the book. Certain messages throughout the book really stuck with me and I decided to try them on for size.

Without spoiling the contents of the book, all I can say is…WOW! It actually worked! We made a simple shift in our collective focus, the tension started to ease and we could see the dust settling when usually it would remain cloudy and tense, without a resolve for hours.

Who would I recommend this book for?

Anyone who wants to improve their relationships from the inside out.

The Enlightened Gardener

By Sydney Banks

176 Pages

What is this book about?

A fictional story about 4 psychologists from America who travel to England for a conference. During this trip, they come across a gardener, who little did they know would transform their lives forever through a new understanding of the fundamental nature of life.

This understanding is now known as the Three Principles of Universal Mind, Universal Consciousness, and Universal Thought.

There are many great metaphors used to help one deepen their understanding of how these principles create our every experience of life.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

Prior to reading this book, I had already read the sequel and been a student of the Three Principles for a little more than 6 months. Therefore, the understanding this book points toward is not new to me, but it still gave me fresh eyes to see with.

Who would I recommend this book for?

Anyone interested wants to transform their entire life from the inside out. This is a great place to start. It will open up a path that is never-ending.

We Consciousness: 33 Profound Truths For Inner And Outer Peace

By Karen Noe

216 Pages

What is this book about?

In short, this book is written by a proclaimed Medium, on the topic of collective consciousness.

She claims to have received communication from the now-deceased DR. Wayne Dyer on this topic. This communication has translated into 33 profound truths on how to be an instrument of peace.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

Before reading this book, becoming a vegetarian had been in the back of my mind for some time. I am now Vegan, this is the book that put the nail in the coffin for me.

There is a chapter dedicated to our relationship with animals within our collective consciousness. I have always been an animal lover and this chapter took my love to a whole new level, a level in which I could not dismiss the act of eating them anymore.

The impact that very chapter had on my life is enormous.

Who would I recommend this book for?

First and foremost, Wayne Dyer fans!

Otherwise, anyone interested in spirituality.

Supercoach: 10 Secrets To Transform Anyone’s Like

By Michael Neill

256 Pages

What is this book about?

Michael Neill is my favourite author and coach. His coaching is also influenced by the Three Principles understanding of Mind, Consciousness, and Thought.

This is the best book I have come across that connects spirituality with pragmatism, or shall I say transcends pragmatism, through a compartmentalized approach.

This book is a revision of its’ 2010 version, also titles SuperCoach.

Michael dedicates entire chapters to each of the 10 secrets. Each chapter begins with clever fables and short stories that really get his point across.

He discusses each of the 10 secrets with humour and clarity, all while pointing us toward the inside-out nature of each of these secrets.

The 10 secrets he discusses are:

1. The Art of Dreaming

2. You Were Born Happy

3. A Whole New Way of Thinking About Goals

4. The Simple Way To Make Decisions

5. Rainy Days and Mondays

6. How to Get Stuff Done

7. The Magic of Connection

8. How To Ask For Anything From Anyone

9. The Secret to a Lifetime of Financial Security

10. The Power of Hope

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

Prior to reading this book, I had been a student of the Three Principle for about 18 months. I had listened to Michael Neill’s podcast twice over, and read two of his other Three Principles-based books twice over as well.

This book really helped me link the pragmatic approach to different aspects of life with the spiritual. It really opened my eyes to new ways of looking at the practical side of life.

Who would I recommend this book for?

Everyone, spiritual or not. Michaels’ writing will appeal to the masses with clarity and contemplation.

Willpower Doesn’t Work

By Benjamin P. Hardy

256 Pages

What is this book about?

This book can be easily summed up as this: A persuasive argument toward how our environment shapes and influences our entire lives.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

I nearly stopped reading this book after going through the first chapter or so.

Given my inside-out approach to life, and this book being more of an outside-in approach, I nearly chucked it to the side due to my strong bias. However, I decided to give it a shot. I recognized my bias and decided to move forward with an open mind, and I’m glad I did.

Our environment cannot be ignored, its’ influence cannot be ignored. The inside-out understanding says that our thoughts create our feelings, not our external environment. But we are not perfect, we all have blind spots, and our environment has a very real influence on our thoughts.

This book really helped me bridge the gap between the inside-out nature of life with the outside-in nature of life. So I thought if our environment has an influence on us, why not learn to use this knowledge to our advantage? Combine inside-out with outside-in, let them feed off each other.

Who would I recommend this book for?

Anyone who wants to learn to use their environment to their advantage.

The Holding Space Practice

By Carol Webster

128 Pages

I first heard about holding space from Leon Vanderpol’s blog and podcast centered around deep transformational coaching. It is because of this that I wanted to go deeper into learning about holding space. After a search on Amazon, I came across this amazing book. The book is very to the point, no fluff, and keeps you engaged through all 128 pages.

One, out of the many, things I LOVE about this book is how practical it is. It has numerous practical exercises within the teachings that will allow you to take several steps toward being able to hold space. I will warn you, the exercises are not for the faint of heart, and you must check your ego at the door. If completed, the exercises are life-changing, I speak from personal experience.

What is this book about?

It is all about holding space!

What does it mean to hold space?

  • Honor individual without judgement, first self, then family, then others
  • Suspension of anxiety over expected outcomes
  • Accepting “now” as it really is without undue regret or control
  • Allowing self and others to choose as we avoid inappropriate pressure, collusion, manipulation, and/or exploitation

There is also a workbook available as a companion to the book that I highly recommend you get as the actual book has numerous exercises in it. You can purchase that from Amazon as well. CLICK HERE

How to read The Holding Space Practice for FREE

I gained access to this book through Kindle Unlimited. If you purchase the book outside of Kindle Unlimited it will cost you $9.99 for Kindle format. If you do not have Kindle Unlimited then I recommend to sign up for the 30-day trial and you can read the book for free!

And if you don’t have a Kindle Reader you will need this FREE KINDLE APP:

Dying to Be Me: My Journey from Cancer, to Near Death, to True Healing

By Anita Moorjani

191 Pages

What is this book about?

First half of the book:

The first half of the book tells the story behind Anita’s transformation, who she was before her NDE (Near Death Experience) that led to her spontaneous cure from cancer. There were many religious and personal conflicts in her life before her NDE. This sets the stage for the second half of the book, allowing it to be so transformative.

Second half of the book:

The second half of the book is one of the most inspiring and transformational reads I have ever encountered. Anita speaks like a spiritually enlighterned person since her NDE. She recalls her past from a perspective that is so inspiring.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

This is the book that influenced me to start my never ending journey toward personal and spiritual growth just over a year ago. It really rocked my world, all my beliefs, paradigms, and perspectives on life all got pulled into question. I would like to mention, I can relate to her journey more than many people due to my wife (who I have been with for nearly 9 years now) having Chronic Leukemia.

I will always hold a special place on my book shelf for this book because of that. This is proof that Dying To Be Me has the power to take you on a transformational journey.

Who do I recommend this book for?

For anyone who struggles with sacraficing who they truly are and all that they believe in for external forces such as Religion, family, friends, self-image ect. this is the book for you!

Deep Listening: Impact Beyond Words

By Oscar Trimboli

119 Pages (Kindle only)

What is this book about?

This book by Oscar Trimboli truly lives up to its’ title, and it teaches you how to listen beyond the words you hear. It is not your typical book on listening by manipulating the other person to think that you’re listening, whether you’re actually listening or not. So you won’t find techniques such as active listening or mirroring in this book.

What impact did this book have on my personal development and growth?

By far the best information I have ever come across when it comes to listening.

Highlights from this book:

  • We speak between 125 and 175 words per minute, yet we can listen to 400 words per minute, this is the 125/400 rule
  • Why the pause is the most critical moment in your listening, most people get this wrong
  • There are 5 levels of listening
  • Learn about unconscious listening vs conscious listening
  • What it means to listen beyond words and how to do it

Awaken The Giant Within

By Tony Robbins

544 Pages

When the topic of the best personal development books gets discussed, Awaken The Giant Within is typically the most popular personal development book talked about. It is not on my list due to popularity though, it is one of the best books for personal growth out there in my opinion. It is a lengthy book, with quite a bit of fluff, which I have found is typical of Tony as I have read all of his books. Although this book could have been written in under 300 pages it does not take away from its’ power.

What is this book about?

  • Making decisions
  • Understanding your beliefs and how to change them
  • Understanding your values and how to change them
  • Learn Neuro Associative Conditioning (NAC) to create lasting change
  • How the quality of your questions create the quality of your life
  • Transformational vocabulary
  • Numerous practical exerices

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

My biggest take away from Awaken The Giant Within is that everything in life is a pattern., and an awareness of this alone was enough to rock my boat. Because of the practical exercises within this book I learned a lot about myself. This took me through a process of deep self exploration. This was my first introduction to beliefs and values, and what fascinated me at the time was understanding that I can change them! That was a breakthrough for me at the time (7 months ago). This was also my first introduction to how habits are formed by thought and how they can be transformed by thought.

Who would I recommend this book to?

This is a great book for anyone who is fairly new to the concept of developing themselves. What you learn about yourself from doing the exercises in the book will be a great gateway toward what direction you would like to go next.

This book will only help you if… you actually do the exercises! Lucky for you, I have created a 37 page PDF of every single exercise in Awaken The Giant Within to give away for free. Click on the link to be taken there. Awaken The Giant Within Workbook

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

By Miguel Ruiz

168 Pages

This is another popular book for those interested in personal growth, for good reason. This is a short, easy read that kept me engaged from beginning to end.

What is this book about?

How did you know?

What are the four agreements?

  1. Be impeccable with your word
  2. Don’t take anything personally
  3. Don’t make assumptions
  4. Always do your best

The Four Agreements goes deeper into what each agreement really means at its’ core and how it can transform your life.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

Immediately after reading this book I went and bought a small whiteboard to place on my fridge. On this white board I wrote The Four Agreements so that I will look at them every day. Doing my best to live by The Four Agreements has transformed my life.

Knowing what these four agreements are is not what will transform you. It is understanding them on the deepest level and then applying them to your life that will transform you and that is what the book is for.

The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment

By Eckhart Tolle

229 Pages

I read this book just over a year ago from writing this, right after I read Dying To Be Me by Anita Moorjani. I thought it was a bit of a dry read when I first read it. Now that I am much further along on my transformational journey I appreciate what I took away from the book much more.

What is this book about?

The Power of Now is about, you guessed it…the NOW. The present moment is all we have and all we ever will have. This book explains the power of being present and mindful towards each and every moment of our lives. Eckhart Tolle uses typical life examples and how being in the present moment effects different circumstances.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

This is the book that got me started on my mindfulness and meditation journey. I did not realize the impact it had until now. For this book alone to inspire me down a path of mindfulness, meditation, and spirituality really says a lot of the impact it had on me. I will be reading this book again this year now that I am at a different point in my journey. I am sure I will take away something different from it the 2nd time around. It is one of those books that is so simple, yet so profound that so much gets missed.

Who would I recommend this book to?

If you would like to become for mindful and present in your life then I highly recommend this book for you.

The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM)

By Hal Elrod

172 Pages

This book was an engaging read and well written. It was written effectively enough to inspire me to create my own morning routine! Considering the topic, I don’t think many people out there could have written in such an inspiring way.

What is this book about?

The Miracle Morning is all about the importance and impact of having a morning ritual. It sites several people who are considered highly successful that always started their day with a morning ritual.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

I was not even finished the book and I had already started adjusting my morning routine. At the point of reading this book I was already waking up an hour before I had to go in for my first personal training client which is an 8 minute drive away so it gave me plenty of time. My routine at this point was meditation for 15 minutes and showering. I don’t have to worry about breakfast because I do intermittent fasting.

After dabbling with different forms of exercise, timing of different aspects of the routine, and trying different things, I wake up 90 minutes before my 1st client and my morning routine now looks like this:

  1. Meditation 10-20 minutes
  2. Yoga 15 minutes
  3. Journal 5 minutes
  4. Read 10-15 minutes

In short, I can tell you that I have never felt better since starting my days like this.

Who would I recommend this book to?

Anyone who wants to feel better from the moment they wake and set their day up for aliveness and fulfillment.

The Enlightened Gardener Revisited

By Sydney Banks

168 Pages

This is the first book I read by Sydney Banks. It is likely you have never heard of him. He is the one to discover the Three Principles understanding in the world of psychology and spirituality.

What is this book about?

A fictional story about a pair of psychologists returning to England to visit an enlightened gardener who taught them this understanding called The Three Principles on their last visit. This story is the sequel to the original book The Enlightened Gardener. The two psychologists pick the gardeners brain to deepen their understanding of the Three Principles throughout their entire visit. They cannot understand how their clients are getting such miraculous results just from facilitating the teaching of the Three Principles to their clients.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

The Enlightened Gardener Revisited is by far the most insightful and profound book I have ever read. It is filled with so much wisdom. I am already familiar with the Three Principles as I have been constantly deepening my understanding of them for the past several months (and it has been the most life changing few months of my life, in large part thanks to this). This allowed me to truly appreciate what is inside this book. If I had read this book 6 months ago it would have been jiberish to me, I would not have comprehended much of it.

This is one of those books I can re-read again and again and take something different away from it every single time. I had to pause several times throughout the book to think about what I just read, and it is not because he uses complex words or sentences, it is because what he teaches is just so profound.

Who would I recommend this book to?

Anyone who wants to understand how they create every experience of their life and how once you understand this it will transform your life forever. If you are not familar with the Three Principles I do not recommend this book for you. I suggest starting with Sydney Bank’s prequal to this book called The Enlightened Gardener or Michael Neill’s Inside-Out Revolution, or both.

The Inside-Out Revolution: The Only Thing You Need to Know to Change Your Life Forever

By Michael Neill

168 Pages

This is the second book I read by Michael Neill, the first book I read of his was Supercoach, which is also a fantastic book. Prior to reading this book I had listened to every YouTube video I could find on Michael Neill and every single one of his 100+ episodes from his podcast. The Inside-Out Revolution reinforced much of what I had already learned from Michael, and what he teaches is amazing.

What is this book about?

The essence of the book is spiritual in nature. The underlying foundation of the book is built upon the Three Principles understanding that was discovered by Sydney Banks. From all the people I have listened to who talk about this understanding, Michael delivers the information in the simplest way in my opinion. Trying to make sense of anything spiritual can be extremely difficult, and I think he nails it.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

With me already being so familiar with Michael Neill’s work and the three principles, what this book did for me was help create further insights and deepen my understanding. That is all I can really ask for from this book.

Who would I recommend this book to?

If you think the outside world is to blame for your circumstances, thoughts, actions, or feelings than this book is for you. Also, anyone who is new to spirituality or who is familiar with spirituality will take something away from this book.

Man’s Search For Meaning

By Viktor E. Frankl

184 Pages

OK, I have something to confess, I didn’t actually read this book. I know, I know, you can judge me all you want. I listened to the audiobook version instead. I loved the message of the book so much I just could not leave it off the list. I will be ordering a paperback version this year as I do want to read the paperback version.

What is this book about?

Man’s Search For Meaning is a true story about Viktor E. Frankl’s encounter with being a prisoner in the Concentration Camps during World War 2. The basis of the book is Viktor contemplating life. What is his meaning? What is his purpose? How can he find meaning in the midst of such a horrific event? Read the book if you would like to find out how he survived with his mental health intact and thrived in his life once he got out.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

Prior to reading this book, I believed that bringing meaning and purpose to our life can completely eradicate many of our life’s “problems”. Every single one of our problems are thought created, and if you tend to create problems chronically you are most likely attempting to fill the empty space that is not being filled by meaning and purpose. This book to me to a deeper understanding of meaning and purpose in my life and inspired me to contemplate the purpose of my own life.

With my wife having Leukemia, I have had some pretty terrible lows in recent years, as you can imagine. I can be thankful she is still here, we both are. I have also had some pretty terrific highs. Man’s Search For Meaning is proof that no matter how bad you think your life is, you always have the opportunity to create meaning and purpose in your life. This story inspired me to start giving back to the world by finding meaning in my suffering the same way Viktor did.

Who would I recommend this book to?

Much of our lives are spent comparing and contrasting. Comparing our low points with someone else’s low points for example. If you are someone who tends to do this a lot, or if you are someone who plays victim a lot, you need to read this book.

Anyone who feels a lack of purpose, meaning, or fulfillment in their life must read this book.

Honourable Mention

Breakthrough Experience

By John F. Demartini

256 Pages

What is this book about?

The foundation of Breakthrough Experience is the positive/negative polarities of life. This was a challenging read. Dr. Demartini dives deep into the spiritual world and the world of quantum physics.

He then puts it all together into what he calls the Quantum Collapse Process, as he assumes you have an understanding of the material. The basis of this process is to transform any negative feelings you have towards someone into neutrality.

This process is quite daring as you have to have the courage to see the bad with the good, and the good with the bad, in yourself and the person you are trying to collapse. This is very powerful stuff.

What impact did this book have on my personal growth and development?

Even though I have yet to sit down and do the Quantum Collapse Process on anyone I had several insights throughout the book. Just the thought of trying to see the good through the bad in someone I have strong negative feelings towards is life-transforming.

This is the book that also transformed the way I look at emotions. That it is OK to feel the so-called “negative emotions”, they are every bit a part of life as the so-called “positive emotions”, and they are both meant to be felt equally throughout life. Understanding this has allowed to me see emotions as antagonistic instead of “good” or “bad”. Not labeling an emotion as “bad” allows it to be felt full force as opposed to resisting or suppressing it.

Who would I recommend this book to?

I recommend this to anyone who is familiar with spirituality and quantum physics. Having an open mind is a must while reading this book. If this is you and you want to learn how to completely neutralize your emotions towards yourself and/or others then this book is for you.

I’ve made contact with some of the providers as well in order to give you as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision. And while some look shiny on the surface, I have my doubts on whether there’s substance beneath that shine.

My Take on Health Coaching, What is it?

I’ve been in the fitness industry for over 12 yrs now, and I’m still in love with it. I dove into coaching years ago, and have immersed myself into learning about it day in and day out since then. Learning to coach has been the single biggest asset to my business, and to myself personally.

Health coaching is generally defined as being a catalyst to behaviour change for the client. Therefore, it is largely psychological and requires conversations to take place with a client in order to coach them.

It doesn’t matter how much we know about creating optimal health. If we cannot influence our clients to create systemic change by utilizing the information we provide and the guidance we give, that information largely goes to waste, if they do not use it.

In my experience, personally and from talking with others, coaching is the link that has been missing within the health and fitness industry for years, until recently. Coaching is the bridge to get clients from receiving the information, to create a behaviour change that allows them to utilize the information.

This is where coaching comes in. This is also where most personal training and nutrition certifications lack, being able to coach the information given. Although, I do see more nutrition certifications offering coaching as part of their curriculum.

This is why not many health coaching programs spend time on the physical aspect of health. One can argue that is what personal training certifications (and all their subsets) are for.

One of the main reasons I ranked Natural Wellness Academy as #1 is due to their amount of time spent on actual coaching conversations. Including live practice, which is imperative for one to become an effective coach. Luckily for myself, I already had clients to practice on while I learned to coach, so I am aware of the importance of this practice.

Natural Wellness Academy Review

In my opinion, from the research I’ve done, this is far and away the best Health Coach Certification program available online.

I have personally been in contact with the founder, Dr. LJ. She is super friendly and I can feel her passion oozing through her emails. I get a real sense of hominess and genuineness from Dr. LJ.

She was completely transparent with me when it came to answering my questions. In my opinion, she went over and above what I had asked.

Here is a complete transcript from one of her emails:

Hi again, Rob – no worries!  Glad that you got the email and thanks for the kind comments.

There are definitely several aspects that set NWA apart:

  • The one-on-one mentoring is really significant for the students as they have someone to either cheerlead, counsel or motivate them to get through the program as well as finding an area of specialization or niche market.  All of our mentors are successful coaches and very upbeat people.
  • We take a very holistic MIND/BODY/SPIRIT approach and it’s kind of “impossible” for someone to go through our program and not have a lot of personal transformation and growth
  • We were the very first holistic health academy (2013) to add the Life Coaching – this really helps the graduates cast a wider net and be able to face a lot of the deeper issues that are behind eating and lifestyle habits
  • We are starting to gear towards “hypno-coaching” – my background is as an international expert in the subconscious mind and in many cases, we will add on the Essential Hypnotherapy Skills as a gift or for a small fee to give the coaches an extraordinary extra skill and further reach.
  • Right now our “hot ticket” item is the CBD/Cannabis Coaching program, an explosive growth market.
  • We do blended programs for incredible pricing and we can also create hybrid certifications for students.  For instance, we have one woman who is doing a “Mind and Manifestation Dynamics”
  • About 70% of our graduates go on to take another certification with us – I think this is a good indicator of the happiness factor of NWA students.

That should cover it – by all means reach out if you have any further questions.

Pros
All online
If you’re a Paleo or Mark Sisson fan this is the perfect program for you
Prestigious Primal Health Coach Certification
Accredited
Cons
Nutritional education is bias and one dimensional. I have nothing against Paleo but I do not believe in the one shoe size fits all approach.
The website is not very transparent with their pricing or curriculum. This to me, has raised some red flags.
No practice coaching sessions
No mentor

The Primal Health Coach program provides the most in-depth and up-to-date ancestral health education in the world, equipping you with an arsenal of well-informed alternative choices based on science and experience in order to best serve your clients’ goals.

Using the model of Integrative Health Coaching, rooted in developmental and humanistic psychology, we shape expert coaches into persuasive catalysts for behaviour change. Spark your clients’ craving for knowledge and help them access their sense of purpose and live according to their core values. Up-level your ability to motivate and inspire lasting change today.

Thirteen comprehensive chapters based on evolutionary health science teach you how to reprogram genes to direct optimal cellular function. Each chapter consists of a video overview from Mark Sisson, reading material, audio supplements, and an examination. An additional three chapters consist of videos with Master Coach Christine Hassler on the topics of coaching and sales.

As a Primal Health Coach you’ll master:

The Art of Listening

So you create the most effective prescription for health for your clients’ unique needs and goals.

The Craft of Intuition

So you can see beyond the surface and into the root of your clients’ issues and goals in order to better serve them.

The Science of Asking Questions

Asking the right questions in the right way is a science, and the coach’s most important skill when it comes to uncovering their clients’ motivations and desires.

The Knack for Collaboration

The coach/client relationship shouldn’t be a top down one, but one of collaboration and camaraderie.

The Inspiration of a Mentor

A mentor inspires, walks his/her talk and helps clients successfully maneuver around (or through!) the obstacles encountered along the way.

As soon as you are admitted as a student you will receive:

Lifetime access to all 20 chapters of the Primal Health Coach coursework and exams described above. Plus…

Multimedia Educational Materials:

You will receive the following mp3 files for convenient download into your favorite audio player platform or for streaming any time from your login portal:

Primal Health Coach Review

Who’s Mark Sisson?

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Mark Sisson, he is the author of the book: The Primal Blueprint, which was a catalyst to the Paleo diet becoming mainstream in 2009.

He is also the publisher of Marksdailyapple.com, said to be the #1 read primal/paleo blog in the world.

Website Lacks Transparency

The Primal Health Coach Institute website seems to be lacking a lot of important information that I would be looking for as a prospective student:

  • curriculum
  • how the program is delivered
  • how many hours are involved in the program
  • is there access to Mark himself? he seems to be a huge selling feature for the program so this would be good to know, especially for fans of his

Why? To Get You To Sign Up To Their Email List

It only makes sense, right?

The website is the appetizer, meanwhile, we’re hungry for the main course!

The solution? Sign up to their email list in order to receive more info. Classic sales approach old and stake in my opinion.

Most of the information on the Primal Health Coach Institute’s curriculum, I was only able to provide from subscribing to their email list and reading all of their emails.

A Bit Salesy In Approach (in my opinion)

One page on their website compares their tuition with that of other apparently similar institutions. In my opinion, any organization that has to convince you based on price is almost always lacking substance. Now, I could be very, very wrong here, as I have never taken their program, but I like to think I have a keen sense for this.

I signed up to their email list as well to get a better sense of the program. Being quite familiar with email autoresponders, as I have been subscribed to lists of some of the wealthiest internet marketers out there, their email series is quite typical from a marketing standpoint. Very little information was given regarding the program itself, and lots of talk about the industry and even a bit of scarcity to try and get you to act.

It appears that the sole purpose of the email series is to get you on the phone with one of their (sales) representatives. My guess, an attempt to sell you on enrolling in their program. The whole series of emails has been a turn-off for me personally.

Just a handful from the dozens of testimonials

It took a lot of digging to find this program and I’m glad I did—what a gem it is.

What I really like about this program

It focuses on training the mind to aid in the healing of mental, emotional, and physical illnesses. It encompasses interwoven evidence-based aspects of mindfulness, cognitive-behavioural techniques, neuroscience, health psychology, positive psychology, energy psychology and behavioural nutrition. Healing aspects of spirituality and the power of perception, insight, awareness, thoughts, and words are taught throughout this course.

This program targets mental health furthermore to physical and spiritual health. In addition, it targets behavioural nutrition since it pertains to mental health; and on psychoneuroimmunology, and that is clearly a big word for the way the mind, thoughts and stress create illness in the torso. Almost every other program concentrate on nourishment and exercise.

Option to become a Registered Health Coach

Not many Health Coach Certifications are qualified for this—especially at this price point. Why is being registered important? One word: insurance. It’s much easier (and usually cheaper) to receive professional insurance. Being a registered progressional also allows your clients to have a portion (or all) of your services covered by their insurance benefits, should they have some.

How much time will you need to complete the modules and the coursework?

You will need 200 hours for the entire program — approximately 12 hours for each of the 15 modules. This includes watching the videos, completing the written assignments and discussion boards, and attending a minimum of 4 bi-weekly live zoom discussion meetings.  Additionally, there are roughly 20 hours of practical coaching sessions to perform.

Homework and Assignments

You will be given a discussion question and a written assignment vignette for each module. In addition, you will be continuously working on your personalized toolbox throughout the program. There will also be opportunities to audiotape portions of sessions and a complete session to show the application of the abilities taught.

Business and Marketing Support

After completion of the course, you can receive 4 webinar sessions on important areas of setting up your company. This covers areas of social networking, proper forms, brochures, website, and PowerPoint presentations, for instance. In addition, you’ll be given usage of their monthly meetings and that means you can build relationships additional IHCs and discuss projects and gain support.

Your own web page

You’ll also gain visibility for the Nickerson Institute website together with your personalized one-page Integrative Health Coaching business website. This professional webpage will be on the Nickerson Institute of Integrative Health Training website, under “Find an Integrative Health Coach”.

Additional Accreditations

As a graduate of the Nickerson Institute Integrative Health Coach Training Program, you have the option for additional accreditation as a Certified Coach for Highly Sensitive People. This 10-hour selfpaced supplemental course teaches the challenges and benefits of the Sensory Processing Sensitivity trait, which is present in 20% of the population and an estimated 30-50% of clients seeking mental health support. The content of this course includes a toolkit you can use with you HSP clients, as well as support material for how to market yourself as an HSP-trained mental health professional.

This course is accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP), the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), the Health Coach Alliance (HCA), the Canadian Association of Integrative Nutrition (CAIN) and is eligible for NBCC Home Study Credits. A discount is given to graduates of the IHC program.

Write for their blog

Students and graduates are invited to submit articles for the Nickerson Institute blog.In addition to sharing your knowledge and polishing your writing skills, this is an opportunity to promote your coaching services and increase your online presence. Select articles may also be promoted via the Facebook and LinkedIn pages.

Presentations

One of the common ways for new coaches to attract clients / generate business to give presentations in their (live or online) community. Asan IHC graduate, you are invited to be a guest speaker at our monthly Zoom meeting where you can hone your presentation skills, introduce current mental health topics, demonstrate effective healing techniques or offer business solutions. This is also an opportunity to reach beyond the Nickerson Institute community, as the recording of your presentation may be used for your own marketing/promotional use.

Create your own online course

Graduates of the IHC training program are offered the chance to develop and instruct an online course relevant to integrative health. These courses will be promoted to the general public, as well as students in the Nickerson Institute programs.

Health Coach Institute Review

Done-For-You Materials

What I really really like about this program is the crazy amount of done-for-you materials. This is a HUGE time saver. If you’re not yet a coach, let’s just say you’re in for an eye-opener.

Creating detox and nutrition programs is a huge ask! Believe me! We’re talking about spending hours upon hours creating programs—only to ask yourself…is this what people want? Will it work? Will they stick to it? Will it create happy clients? Will it generate referrals?

Health Coach Institute provides these programs for you…and not only that…they’ve tested over and over again and been proven to work. These programs sell!

In addition to creating programs, you must think about creating handouts, infographics, checklists, and much more. Again, these are all handed to you and ready to call your own.

Business Marketing

You may be the most caring, inspiring and educated health coach out there—but nobody will ever know if you don’t know how to sell yourself and your services.

One of the best ways to know if a company’s business and marketing course is top-notch is to observe their own marketing. One can only expect to be taught what the other practices.

If you observe Health Coach Institute’s website, social media channels and ads, you’ll see how effective their marketing is. They stand out from the crown, it’s quite obvious.

Their marketing is top-notch, way ahead of the field, and this is what you can expect to learn to do for yourself as a Health and Life Coach once you graduated from their program. Stand out from the crowd.

Most courses have a lesson or two on business and marketing. Health Coach Institute has an entire module!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Health Coach and a Life Coach?

In short, a Health Coach focuses on nutrition and lifestyle changes to promote better health whereas a Life Coach typically isn’t trained to give specific health or nutritional advice and focuses on broader aspects of one’s life such as relationships, career, money, life goals, spirituality, and personal growth. There may be some overlap in areas such as emotional well-being, spirituality, and generic health and activity goals.

How do you become a certified Health Coach?

You can become a certified health coach by completing any Health Coach certification in the post or elsewhere. You don’t need any prerequisites.

Can anyone become a Health Coach?

The short answer, yes, anyone can become a Health Coach. The Health Coaching profession is unregulated and therefore anyone can call themselves a Health Coach even without a certification.

Conclusion

In case you decided to skip parts of the post, I want to reiterate that the best all-around online Health Coach Certification Program is Natural Wellness Academy, hands down. This is regardless of whether you’re looking to make a career out of Health Coaching or if you’re already an established professional in the health and wellness field and looking to add Health Coaching to your current resume.

NWA is the best Health Coaching Certification program for those looking to make a career solely from being a Certified Health Coach, I do not recommend any of the other health coaching certifications if this is you. I can most definitely understand if $2795 sounds like a lot of money to some of you (Hint: sign up to their email list, discounts of up to 20% have been offered before).

Think about it this way, if you’re aspiring to create a career from being a great Health Coach then you need a great education AND a great mentor. NWA offers both of those. It’s an investment now that will definitely pay off later. If you cannot afford it now, I highly recommend you wait and save up, and don’t rush into a cheaper program that you won’t be able to build a career out of.

how to become a life coach

How To Become A Life Coach – The No B.S Guide

My goal with this post is to bring transparency on what it really takes to become a life coach or any type of coach for that matter. There is so much bull-shit marketing out there, this post will help you ween through it.

There is much, much more to becoming a life coach than just going through a life coaching certification program.

You will risk failure if you don’t understand what it really takes to become a coach. I will touch on this after I talk about what most people want to learn about…life coaching certifications.

With life coaching, and coaching in general, becoming a more and more recognized and sought-after profession, there are more people than ever wondering how to become a life coach. However, before you wonder HOW, I want you to make sure you know WHY.

In my opinion, there are one too many life coaching programs and certifications that are marketing life coaching as a prestigious job that can pay you $200/hr, while allowing you to work whenever you want, from wherever you want.

Although there is truth to that statement, what they fail to tell you is that you need much more than just a certification. The work that needs to be done behind the scenes is rarely talked about. Why? Because you are being sold a lifestyle that caters toward getting your emotional buy-in. Getting your emotional buy-in makes them money.

If you knew what it took to become that person who makes $200/hr+ and works whenever, and from wherever they want, they might not get your money.

Firstly, Is A Life Coach Certification Necessary?

The short answer…no. Anybody can call themselves a life coach, or any kind of coach.

Is it recommended to get certified through a high-quality and reputable certification program? YES

The coaching industry as a whole is not regulated. The International Coach Federation has put together an attempt to regulate the coaching industry but has not succeeded thus far. They have made strides toward establishing non-obligatory standards but have not established a governing body of standards that MUST be met.

From the ICF website:

“The International Coach Federation (ICF) is the leading global organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high standards, providing independent certification, and building a worldwide network of trained coaching professionals.”

“CF also accredits programs that deliver coach-specific training. ICF-accredited training programs must complete a rigorous review process and demonstrate that their curriculum aligns with the ICF Core Competencies and Code of Ethics.

Today, ICF is specifically recognized among coaching professionals worldwide for:

  • Developing coaching core competencies
  • Establishing a professional code of ethics and standards
  • Creating an internationally recognized credentialing program
  • Setting guidelines through accreditation for coach-specific training programs
  • Providing continuous education through world-class events, Communities of Practice (CPs) and archived learning.”

Just because a life coach certification is not accredited through ICF does not mean that it is a low-quality program, although it can be an indicator worth digger deeper into.

Here’s a list of some of the most sought-after coaches in the world that are not ICF accredited:

  • Tony Robbins
  • Michael Neill
  • Brian Tracy
  • Marshall Godsmith
  • Jack Canfield

Now, this is not to say that you should just start calling yourself a coach and asking for clients. It will become evident within the 1st few minutes of a conversation with a client that you are not who you claim to be.

5 things to look for when searching for a high-quality life coaching certification program:

1. Research the person(s) who is teaching the program

You want to make sure that whoever is teaching the curriculum practices what they preach. Search their full name on Google.

Check out their social profiles, what type of content are they sharing?

If they are a professional coach they should have their own personal website that offers their services. Browse their website, look at their about page, their services page, and look for testimonials.

For example, one of the top online Life Coach certifications available—Coach Training Alliance—has several instructors who each have their own personal coaching practice and corresponding personal websites:

David Meyer

Jennifer Powers

Laurie Cameron

Carrie Fraser

David Krueger

For more details on their amazing certification read my Coach Training Alliance Review

2. How long is the program?

Any program that advertises that you can become a life coach by taking their weekend certification is utter bullshit.

Whether the program is online or in person, if it is condensed into an immersive experience, say 8 hr days over 5-7 days, it is not conducive for a life coaching certification and here’s why.

It is one thing to learn the material, it is another to BE the material. You need to use what you learn to transform your own life before you have any hope of transforming the lives of others. This my friend, takes time.

I think the minimum length to look at when researching for a life coaching certification is 6 months. This allows time to use the teachings on yourself, to become who you will coach others to be.

3. Do you get to participate in practice coaching sessions with feedback?

Coaching is a very interpersonal experience. It is unpredictable, you never know what will show up. Yet, through it all, you need to be able to remain present, hold space, and respond from your highest self.

No matter what gets thrown at you, you need to be on top of your game. This takes practice and lots of it.

4. Is there a live classroom session either by way of video or phone (minimum 1x/wk)?

This allows discussion on the current topic between students and teachers. Students rarely don’t have any questions regarding any particular topic. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions you wouldn’t otherwise get answers to. It also allows you to hear answers to other questions you may not have thought of.

5. Do they integrate “inner work”?

In other words, is a condition of you graduating dependent upon having done a certain amount of inner work with yourself?

This means, using everything you learn about yourself as a form of personal development or personal growth to be the person that you will be coaching others to be.

This leads me to the most important topic of this entire article…

If You Don’t Do This You Will Fail…

As the old saying goes, “practice what you preach”.

Life coaching is one profession that you will absolutely not get away with not living by this. You MUST practice what you preach.

I’m not talking about practicing here and there, you must live it every single day of your life, with every single breath you take.

Some call it inner work, but I don’t like to call it that. The word “work” tends to insinuate it’s a J-O-B. I like to look at it as a way of living, a journey. So, for the sake of this article, I will refer to “inner work” as an “inner journey” instead.

For example, I am confident in waking people up from their old way of thinking to a new understanding of how the mind works. I can do this with a high degree of success, empathy, compassion, and understanding because I have done this for myself.

Now, this doesn’t mean that if you’re going to be a relationship coach that you need to be in a relationship, although having success in your own relationship is extremely beneficial. What you do need is a fundamental understanding of how relationships work and what makes them successful.

Examples:

If you’re going to coach people on how to master their stress then you have better master your own stress.

If you’re going to coach people on how to be more mindful then you better be mindful yourself.

If you’re going to coach people on how to find peace then you better have found peace yourself.

If you’re going to coach people on how to meditate then you better meditate yourself.

If you’re going to coach people on how to wake up then you better have woken up yourself.

I think you get the point.

You Must Be What You Are Selling

If you graduate from a high-quality life coaching certification then you should be prepared to take on your first clients. This is because high-quality coaching programs understand that you are the product, that you are what you’re selling.

Because they understand this, you will have plenty of homework to do for yourself.

How To Know When You’re Ready To Coach

If you’ve ventured on your inner journey, and continue to do so, you will know based on a feeling of knowing. This only happens if you are in touch with your highest self and intuition.

When you’re not in touch with your highest self, this is when you tend to get confusing messages. You become unsure of which thoughts and feelings to believe and focus on. Some call this the ego.

Knowing who you truly are, without confusion, is what will guide you to know when you’re ready. Just wait for the feeling, this feeling is your green light.

The Journey Doesn’t Stop There

Becoming a life coach is just the beginning of a lifelong journey. Your inner journey is infinite.

Always keep learning!

For example, here are 6 things I do every day:

  1. Read a minimum of 45 minutes per day
  2. Listen to podcasts whenever I’m driving
  3. Meditate every morning for 15-20 minutes on gratitude, intentions, various life topics, and teachings from Sydney Banks
  4. Journal every morning in The Daily Stoic
  5. Writing on my blog is a form of learning for me. It keeps me in touch with my zone of genius, flow, and creativity.
  6. Learn from every experience I have throughout each day

Welcome

This post is for you if you have a budget between $99-$5000 (payment plans are available for most programs) and want an easier time making a decision on which is the best online life coach certification program for you.

I’ve done the homework so you don’t have to

If you’re like me and you hate the tedious process of finding, researching, and comparing programs then you’ll love this post. I’ve made contact with some of the providers as well in order to give you as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision

Frequently Asked Questions

Have you had any clients or others seemingly value any one life coach program over the other?

I have not. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong between Natural Wellness Academy and Coach Training Alliance as the #1 choice, given that you have the funds. They are both of very high quality with plenty of live practice and mentoring. It really comes down to what kind of coach you want to be as Natural Wellness Academy is more spiritual based and Coach Training Alliance is more inside-out based.

Did you think the Universal Life Coach program was worth your time, and which specific program did you take?

Their program has been updated and much improved in my opinion. I will leave my original answer from a question I received, but it no longer stands as accurate.

The most critical feedback I had regarding their program in the past has been resolved.

Lacking course feedback has been cleared up with me by Ayisha herself, and is a non-issue.

Lacking live coaching practice has also been resolved.

I can honestly say I would recommend their program as an extremely viable option now

*Original answer:

I took the transformational life coaching certification. I don’t think it was worth my time, I stopped going through the modules about halfway through for this reason.

Do you face much skepticism for your NLP background?

I have never faced any skepticism regarding having an NLP background. In my experience, people don’t even care about my background nor do they ask me. As long as they think I can help them, that is all they really care about. An additional note to that, I don’t advertise my NLP background either because I don’t use its’ strategies. As I learned more about NLP, something about it didn’t feel right to me. It helped me realize that having a toolbox full of strategies for different problems was not the approach I wanted to take.

It became too superficial for me personally, I wanted to connect with people on a deeper level. I wanted to transform people from the most fundamental level, from the inside out. This is something NLP will not do. I liken NLP to a handyman who brings his toolbox whenever there is a problem, fixes it, and leaves. Whereas I wanted to transcend problems to get people to see there is nothing to fix, this is more of the inside-out approach that CTA will take. Therefore, it all depends on what kind of coach you want to be.

Where does niche fit in with each program?

I think all of the programs understand the value of niches.

iNLP is more NLP based, CTA is more inside-out based, and UCI is a blend of NLP, Positive Psychology, mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

I think you will know what you want once you figure out how you want to coach, and on what level you want to impact people.

Why my change of heart regarding NLP?

My decision had nothing to do with the quality of the program, it was personal.

After taking their NLP combo course, I realized that NLP didn’t resonate with me. I have nothing against it, it’s just not for me.
I’m grateful for learning NLP as it pointed me in a different direction and I have since gone on a spiritual journey that contradicts much of what NLP is about; a manipulative toolbox for the mind.

I prefer to transcend mind-made challenges, oppose to seeing them as problems and deciding which tool will fix it.

But, that’s me.
If NLP resonates with you, go for it! I don’t think you’ll find a more complete NLP-based Life Coaching program.

Do I need a qualification to be a life coach?

Some professional coaches look to eventually get certified with the ICF (International Coach Federation). You do not have to take one specific program to qualify for this. The iNLP Center’s NLP Life Coach Certification and Coach Training Alliance’s Coach Training Program are perfect examples. Their certifications both qualify for 60 hrs toward an ICF Certification. You may then take a different program that is accredited by the ICF to add to your hours. For more info go to International Coach Federation.

Many people over concern themselves with credentials and qualifications (in my opinion).

Ask yourself this:

Would you rather invest in a coach (not accredited by the ICF) who was referred to you based on that referring person having had amazing results or a coach accredited by the ICF who has little evidence of producing real-world results?

Word of Warning (Udemy)

I understand how tempting it is to get ‘certified’ on Udemy for $15 (some of them even off great info)—but take it from someone who’s coached others—if you want to be a great coach you need live practice plus feedback. Also, you want an extensive curriculum that provides 1-to-1 feedback on your coursework, otherwise how else are you to know how you did?

If you’re serious about this, and it’s not just something else to learn, I strongly recommend you do not cut corners.

Every course over $1000 in this post offers live practice coaching sessions plus feedback on both your coaching and coursework.

Coach Training Alliance Review

I have to say, I am extremely impressed with the curriculum from Coach Training Alliance. If I wasn’t already enrolled at the iNLP Center there is a very good possibility I would have chosen Coaching Training Alliance based on the curriculum alone. Who knows, I may even take their program in the future since the two curriculums take a different approach and collaborate with each other.

Coaching From The Inside-Out

Based on the curriculum, the approach appears to be more an inside-out approach versus an outside-in approach. This completely aligns with my philosophy on coaching. The inside-out approach focuses on transforming one’s inner world in order to change their outer world. This is a different approach than the iNLP Center’s NLP approach where they are more strategy-based or outside-in coaching. This alone is the reason I would choose Coach Training Alliance over iNLP Center if I were to choose all over again.

Your Own Website

Luckily I have learned how to use WordPress over the years through learning affiliate marketing. I have spent hundreds of dollars to do so. You will learn the basics of how to build your own website using WordPress, The fact that this is part of their program is amazing and will save you plenty of time and money, trust me, this is a massive bonus.

Here’s an excerpt from their blog with more info:

A Program that Sets Us Apart

There is a Mind Dynamics module in just about every one of our cutting-edge certification programs in keeping with our philosophy that holism comes from incorporating Mind, Body & Spirit.  Mind is where my own journey as a healer began when I made the quantum leap from training in a more traditional psychotherapeutic approach to studying the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy, and Jungian psychoanalysis.  As an international trainer, I facilitated certification in hypnotherapy and mind dynamics in many countries and cultures.

The body is where I migrated when after years of grueling world travel, I developed an auto-immune disorder. Being incapacitated for some time galvanized me to learn about how food was impacting my health as well as other supportive lifestyle adaptations.

When we founded the Natural Wellness Academy in early 2013, my goal was to give holistic health coaches the superior advantage of being able to help their clients actually incorporate more lasting lifestyle habits, choices, and behaviors by incorporating Mind Dynamics into the curriculum.

The Mind’s Eye

The new Mind Dynamics Life Coach carries extra training and certification in basic hypnotherapy skills (Essential Hypnotherapy Skills) Having the ability to use hypnosis to help your clients control stress, conquer fears, boost their confidence and overcome negative habits will be a boon to your practice as more and more people are tuning in to the need to access more of their mind’s potential.

Blended Curricula Help You Case a Wider Net for Clients

Many of our coaching candidates are doing blended or hybrid curricula; in fact, a study done by our Board showed that 70% of NWA grads have gone on to take another program with us.  These are always offered at discounted prices.

For example, we have many Holistic Health & Life Coaching students who added the Essential Hypnotherapy Skills, recognizing that this would give their practice a “leg up.”  Here is a testimonial from Janett Nathal in Mexico City – she was part of our first graduating group from Mexico last year.

Describing the Mind Dynamics module and Essential Hypnotherapy Skills:

This program really represented a “before and after” in my life.  I got so many tools to apply to my own life – and to help other people in my coaching sessions.  I had always wondered about how much more we could accomplish by learning about the mind and now I’m totally convinced that hypnosis is a gigantic tool to help our clients achieve their healthy eating and lifestyle goals – really everything they want!  The mind can truly be our ally if we learn her language, and that is what hypnosis has taught me.   – Janett Nathal “BHealthy by Jane”

  • International Coach Federation (ICF) for CCE’s (18 hrs toward ICF Certification should you decide to pursue)

Natural Wellness Academy Review

Hypnosis is Not What You Think

I feel the need to touch on hypnosis (since it’s part of the program), and there is much ignorance and pre-conceived notions surrounding it.

Chances are when you hear hypnosis, you imagine swinging pocket watches and talk of, “you are actually finding very sleepy.”

That’s Hollywood’s hypnosis. Genuine hypnosis doesn’t put you under a spell. It doesn’t cause you to blackout. No one will convince you to cluck such as a chicken upon waking.

But what it could do is calm anxiety, numb pain, induce sleep, and balance your nervous system.

It may even sound strikingly comparable to meditation. Except during hypnosis, you’re guiding the thoughts instead of letting them go by. You’re driving the automobile – but without the hard work, like zoning from your regular route home.

“Self-hypnosis, meditation, and other styles of mind-body wellness can help us bring our entire body – the disease fighting capability and the mind – right into a far better balance,” says Tampa-based therapist LindaJoy Rose, Ph.D., current director from the Natural Wellness Academy and former director for the American Board of Hypnotherapy.

And once you understand the gist of hypnosis you are able to use it toward anything, including minimizing the constant anxiety and rumination of current thought processes.

Here’s everything you need to know:

What exactly is hypnosis?

You might remember from Psych 101 you have two states of mind: the conscious, which is the tip of the iceberg above water, if you will – the active, analytical, problem-solving, and worry-creating portion of your awareness; and the subconscious, which holds everything just below the surface, like suppressed feelings, reflexive judgments, and underlying motivations. These are things you don’t actively think about but could bring into conscious awareness if you needed.

Hypnosis essentially tells your consciousness to take a backseat and lets you turn your attention inward to that deeper sense of the unconscious self, according to a 2018 analysis in Psychoanalytic Review that reports the practice temporarily suspends the mind’s critical faculties.

It works like this: In the beginning, either an in-person therapist or an audio guide is leading you with their voice. Just like with meditation, you’re focused on their voice and are practicing letting go of control over your thoughts. The guidance tells you what kind of images and thoughts to become absorbed in, then how to direct that toward healing activity within.

That state is called a hypnotic trance. You are in control the whole time – one of the biggest misconceptions of hypnosis is that it’s done to you, but really you’re guiding your thoughts, says Steven Gurgevich, Ph.D., a psychologist based in Tucson, AZ who has been teaching and practicing hypnotherapy for over 40 years.

And you’re totally aware of what’s happening the whole time. Just like how you can hear the TV making noise but not actually be listening, or stare out the window inside a daydream without actually seeing what’s happening, hypnosis allows you to direct your thoughts without actually engaging your mind, Dr. Gurgevich highlights.

That’s because entering a hypnotic trance change what elements of your brain are activated. One study out of Stanford University viewed the brains of individuals during guided hypnosis and found less activity in two key areas: the dorsal anterior cingulate, which manages thinking and motor control, as well as the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which factors in a disconnect between someone’s actions and their knowledge of their actions. This uncoupling enables you to be a part of actions without bringing your consciousness into play.

Also, the Stanford team discovered that during hypnosis, there is certainly even more connectivity between two elements of your brain that foster a stronger brain-body connection.

This brings us to an important factor: What you imagine and the pictures you imagine have true power over the human brain. Studies show simply hearing words connected with physical suffering actually activates the regions of your brain in charge of pain perception in comparison to neutral words. Reading a summary of negative words, even briefly, makes anxious and depressed people feel more of it.

Hypnosis helps reduce unwanted feelings by repeating positive thoughts so they have got the contrary effect – rather than acknowledging that pain, you concentrate on feeling filled with healing energy, happiness, and simple movement which puts less attention on your own pain receptors. Instead of recognizing – and then thinking about – feeling anxious, you direct your subconscious on remaining calm and maintaining a balanced state.

So what is hypnosis utilized for?

Hypnosis, visualization, and meditation are all siblings from the same family. The primary difference is clinical hypnosis can be used for a particular purpose – an instrument to place your consciousness on standby and invite the mind to spotlight some type of healing or action.

“There is certainly less resistance with the conscious – the greater ‘judgmental’ area of the psyche – in order that through repetition you can change negative habits and instill positive ones,” Dr. Rose explains.

Super important fact: Your subconscious can be in charge of regulating all of your bodily functions, together with your lungs, heart, brain, digestion, nervous system, immune response. That’s how your organs function without active thought. And because your subconscious is currently driving the automobile, there appears to be a “communication highway right to the physical system,” Dr. Rose says. Among other activities, this enables you to attain your autonomic nervous system, calming the fight-or-flight response from the stress that you might possibly not have actually known was working away.

Studies show they have true power: Practicing hypnosis regularly might help you rest better, control cravings for bad-for-you foods, and reduce stress.

One research study out of Pakistan found adding hypnotherapy to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) treatment significantly increased the improvement of depressive symptoms. Combining self-care and self-hypnosis significantly improved energy, rest quality, depression, anxiety, and worry in cancer patients, reports a 2020 study in Psycho-oncology.

It’s also commonly used to ease all degrees of pain, including for all those suffering a one-time burn, regular IBS symptoms, and dying from painful diseases.

Module 1: An Introduction to Coaching

Coaching isn’t just one thing! There’s a rich landscape of different approaches and a broad range of practices that may fall under the umbrella term “coaching”. In this module, Yannick will introduce you to the world of coaching and help you make sense of what it is (and isn’t). We’ll describe the exciting possibilities that coaching creates for you and set the foundations for the practitioner you’ll become as part of this journey.

We’ll introduce you to the key competencies we believe every coach needs in their repertoire which we’ll help you hone throughout this program. Plus, we’ll talk about why good ethics are important; not as a set of rules or laws you’ll need to follow as a coach, but rather a framework and a set of questions you can ask yourself to make sure you and your clients are safe and that you provide them with best practice. We’ll talk about where “the line” might be drawn between coaching, mentoring, consulting, and therapy and how to make difficult decisions as part of your coaching practice.

Module 2: Psychological Foundations

No two clients are the same. However, it’s probably safe to say all people come to coaching for the same reason: to make a change! But what underpins a client’s ability to make change? What is needed to be successful? To achieve goals? To be transformed?

In this module, we explore the psychological factors that underpin a coach’s ability to facilitate change in their client’s lives. We begin by exploring the reasons why people seek coaching; we then discuss the importance of helping clients become clear about their ideals of success and how that success is connected to their overall well-being. Fundamental to coaching is being open to possibility and providing a non-judgemental space.

However, this can be challenged when faced with a seemingly unrealistic client goal. We therefore discuss a ‘middle way’ approach that allows clients to experience success, even when faced with unachievable goals. We also explore techniques that enable clients to immediately begin walking along the path to success. The module ends by considering motivation and the deeper purpose and higher meaning of goals and our personal Ikigai.

Universal Coach Institute Review (My Experience)

Extracted From Comments:

“why not universal institute”? There were a lot of great things you mentioned about the institute. Is it really important to attend an accredited program?

To simplify my response to why Universal Coach Institute is not my first recommendation: You get what you pay for. I have recently invested in Universal Coach Institue as well to see what they are all about and to allow me to give people like yourself more insight into the program. I think one of the best questions I can ask myself when it comes to recommending a coaching program is: “would I Personally work with one of their coaching graduates?”. With regards to Universal Coach Institute, the answer would be no. If you are looking for a complete program that will allow you to start coaching once you graduate I do not recommend Universal Coach Institute as a first choice. If you know you will be pursuing further coaching education, or already have some past coaching education and experience, then it will be an excellent resource for you moving forward.

I do think it’s a great program though, here’s why:

Reason #1 – Coach Ayisha (owner and mentor)

Whether you decide to pursue any training with Universal Coach Institute or not, I highly recommend signing up to their email list for the 5 Day Challenge To Create A 1K to 10K Coaching Program free course. Coach Ayisha’s emails are invaluable as they are jam-packed with information. Doing this will allow you to experience Coach Ayisha as a teacher and help decide whether she is a good fit for you or not.

Reason #2 – The Extensive Amount of Tools and Client Handouts This is an invaluable resource. For those who are unfamiliar with the coaching process or the business aspect of coaching, there is an enormous amount of paperwork involved. Typically this paperwork comes in the form of coaching tools or exercises to be used with clients, legal papers and agreements, personal tracking, and finance paperwork. For those new to the business, this can be a huge learning curve that will be made worse by not knowing where to start. Fortunately, Universal Coach Institute has this completely covered. If you were to purchase similar resources elsewhere you will be looking at $100+, and it is all included in the Life and Transformational Coach Certification Program.

Transformation Academy Review (My Experience)

I’ve taken all 4 courses that make up the Master Transformation Life Coach Certification. I’ll review them each one by one.

All in all, I think Joeel and Natalie do a fantastic job at making their videos engaging. Their teaching style is better than most, in my opinion, and this creates a much more palpable learning experience.

Transformation Life Coach

This was hands down my favorite course of the 4 courses. I may be a little biased because transformational coaching is what I enjoy coaching on and learning about most.

Transformation is about who we are and who we want to be, not what we want to do. I was a little skeptical at first that JOeel and Natalie may get this wrong but they nailed it. This certification is all about who we want to be and not what we want to do.

Although much of the information in this certification was a review for me, it was a great reminder. Joeel and Natalie have a way of simplifying complex subjects and this allowed some of the information to sink a little further for me.

I resonate with the Hero’s Journey that they teach as I’m familiar with it. I’m glad it’s part of the course. I believe the Hero’s Journey is a great metaphor for the process we endeavor on our own journey of personal transformation.

There is a lot of teaching on beliefs; how we form them, how they affect us, how to release them, how to change them, and how to instill them.

Forgiveness Life Coach Certification

I’m glad to see this certification is part of the program as I think understanding forgiveness is a huge part of our transformational journey.

Forgiveness isn’t new to me by any means. I’ve had to let go of my fair share of resentments and to do that I had to understand what that meant.

Forgiveness is one of the most challenging processes one will ever have to go through, however, the rewards are liberating.

What I liked: The information was presented well, in an easy-to-understand manner for such a deep subject.

What I didn’t like: The co-presenter, Sheri Rosenthal, seemed somewhat inauthentic to me. I feel she lacked compassion and emotional validation for the pain others may feel. But hey, that could just be me.

Life Story Coach Certification

I found certification a little redundant after already completing the Transformation Life Coach Certification.

The gist of the certification is this—we create a story around our life and who we are based on our upbringing and the coinciding beliefs that accompany it.

The redundancy is surrounding the beliefs. Much of the information presented about beliefs is a rehash of the Transformation Life Coach Certification.

I do think it’s important to understand that a client’s story is just that, a story. Their story is not absolute truth, it’s their way of seeing their life, themselves, and the world they live within.

It’s extremely important that, as coaches, we don’t get caught up in the story we’re being told. Instead, we see it with curiosity, we question it.

Purpose Quest Workshop Facilitator Certification

I’m not going to be, this certification didn’t interest me much. I didn’t resonate with it as I have no desire to host workshops on people’s life purposes.

For this reason, I don’t remember much about this course as I breezed through it without being highly engaged.
