having trouble meditating

10 Possible Reasons Why You Are Having Trouble Meditating

Meditation seems simple, doesn’t cost anything, and is highly effective, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. And to be honest, it actually is pretty easy once you understand it, it’s just not what people expect it to be. Thes expectations can lead to having trouble meditating.

Beginners have all sorts of troubles when meditating, but most of them aren’t really problems. The complaints beginners have are simply part of the meditation process.

Meditation can work for everyone that puts in the time and effort.

Common Reasons People Have Trouble Meditating

1. Your mind is too active

Of course, it’s active. It takes practice before the mind quiets down, and it’s rarely silent even after years of practice. It takes about 20 minutes for experienced meditators to notice a slowing down of the mind.

This isn’t really a problem. Part of the purpose of meditating is to learn how your mind operates. This is how it operates.

Just return your focus to your breath.

2.Your mind wanders

It’s not uncommon to suddenly realize that you’ve been daydreaming for the last five minutes. The solution is the same as the previous issue. Just return your attention to your breath and continue.

3. A lack of consistency

Meditation needs to be done daily to see the greatest benefits. It also needs to be done daily to gain a high level of proficiency. You can’t become skilled at what you don’t practice. Get as much practice as you can.

4. You fall asleep

It’s not easy to fall asleep if you have the proper posture. It should be impossible to stay asleep if you have the proper posture, as you’re sure to lose you balance and fall over.

The best position for meditating is to sit up straight. If you lie down, you may struggle to stay awake.

5. Body pains

Holding one position can be painful, especially when you’re just starting out with meditation. Over time, your aches and pains will largely go away.

It’s best to try to remain still. Shifting your position will only give temporary relief, and the process starts all over again. No matter how much it hurts, you’ll find the pain fades away and eventually moves to another location if you stay still.

Itches fall into the same category. Just leave them alone and observe them.

6. Boredom

Yes, meditation can be boring, especially if you’re used to significantly more stimulation. Learn to sit still with your boredom and just observe it. Boredom can be more fascinating than you might think.

7. Rationalizing that quitting is a good idea

Common thoughts include things like, “This is a waste of time.” “Why am I doing this?” “Is this all there is?” Again, just sit with your thoughts and notice them. Every thought is as meaningless as the next.

Just realize that it’s your discomfort with stillness that’s bothering you. You’ll come to understand that many of the things you do in your life are to avoid this feeling. This includes things like staring at the TV and overeating.

Finding/Making time

The “not having time” excuse is hardly a valid excuse. If it’s important enough, you’ll make time.

Go to bed 20 minutes early and sit in the corner. Or get up 20 minutes early and do the same. The truth is, after a little practice, you can meditate at your desk or on a bus.

If you had time to watch TV, surf the internet, or play on your phone, you had time to meditate.

9. Desiring perfection

Perfection in meditation isn’t achievable, but you don’t need to be perfect. Put in the time with your best effort. That’s all that’s required.

10. Expecting more

Meditation rarely involves earth-shattering insights. It’s a gradual process that brings understanding over time.

The common troubles above aren’t really problems per se. They’re simply misunderstandings of what normally occurs during a meditation session. Just keep at it and have faith that everything is as it should be.

does walking meditation work

Does Walking Meditation Work? 6 Benefits of Walking Meditation

When you think about meditation, you may automatically picture yourself sitting down, but meditating while walking is another useful option.

Consider these benefits of walking meditation and suggestions for how to get started.

Benefits of Walking Meditation

1. Learn a popular technique

Walking meditation is a common variation that you’re likely to encounter at many retreat centers. By getting acquainted with this method, you’ll be ready to join in.

2. Get off to a good start

Beginners may find it uncomfortable to sit for long periods. Taking a stroll provides a different approach to launching a meditation practice.

3. Reduce agitation

When stress builds up, you may prefer to keep moving around. Rather than skipping a session completely, just stay on your feet.

4. Manage fatigue

It’s easy to nod off if you were up all night finishing a report or nursing a sick child. Remaining erect is likely to keep you more alert until you can get the rest you need.

5. Exercise more

Meditation can be good for your body as well as your mind. Every bit of physical activity counts when it comes to staying fit. A walking meditation of 15 minutes to an hour is a gentle, but effective, workout.

6. Integrate mindfulness into ordinary activities

One purpose of meditation is to develop a clearer mind that you can rely on all day long. When you get used to walking while meditating, you’ll become more skilled at generating positive thoughts in any setting.

How to Practice Walking Meditation

1. Create a path

Lay out a route for yourself. You could walk around your living room or visit a local park. If you stick to an area you know well, it will be easier to minimize distractions.

2. Focus on your feet

Start out by noting each step. Over time, you’ll become more aware of the many individual movements involved. Imagine that your soles are caressing the earth.

3. Pace yourself

Most people find that a slower pace is conducive to becoming more deliberate and attentive. You may want to start out walking the way you usually do and gradually ease up.

4. Lower your eyes

Try keeping your eyes half shut and softly aimed at the ground a couple of feet ahead of you. If you’re in a spot where there are too many obstacles to do this, relax and enjoy the scenery.

5. Position your arms

Lower your shoulders and let your arms hang easily along the side of your body. Clasp your hands gently in front of your lower abdomen.

6. Welcome a smile to your face

Let a smile well up from within. Visualize pleasant and soothing images like flower gardens and snowy mountains.

7. Quiet down

Leave your earphones at home. Put aside your plans for the evening. Observe the stillness in your mind.

8. Take full breaths

Breathe deeply from your diaphragm. Feel your abdomen rise and fall. Gradually synchronize your footsteps and your breath in whatever pattern is natural and sustainable.

9. Prepare for sitting meditation

Walking meditation is an ideal transition to a sitting meditation. A brief walking meditation session will help you clear your head and dissolve tension in your body so you can concentrate better.

10. Alternate between walking and sitting

Another good use for walking meditation is to make it a supplement to your sitting practice. If your foot gets a cramp or you just want to move around, meditating on your feet will help you extend your practice time.

Diversify your practice by meditating while walking. It will help you apply mindfulness to more of your daily routine so that you can enjoy greater peace and contentment.

what is the purpose of meditation

What’s The Purpose of meditation? 4 Benefits Anyone can Gain

Many religions and philosophies advocate meditation. Meditation is also used as a tool in many activities and for self-help purposes. While all of these things might be rather disparate, the reasons for performing the meditation are rather similar.

Many of us feel we have a reasonable understanding of the practice of meditation, but many of us can’t really describe the actual purpose.

A meditative practice brings you many benefits:

1. Meditation can give your mind a much needed a rest.

whats the purpose of meditation

Your mind is constantly active. It’s thinking about ten different things every 15 seconds. It’s telling you that you need a drink of water. It’s worrying about your date next Saturday and reminding you that you don’t have enough money in your bank account to pay your cable bill.

Sleep isn’t any better. In your dreams, you’re largely acting and behaving the same way you do while awake. You’re still worrying about the same stuff during your dreams. Sleep is great for resting your body, but it’s not as useful for resting your mind.

In meditation, you can create a space where your mind is essentially empty.

2. Meditation can teach you how to focus.

what is the purpose of meditation 2

When you think of meditation, do you imagine someone sitting alone in a quiet room with subdued lighting? This is the easiest way to meditate, with no distractions. It’s like meditation with training wheels. But you could actually be meditating most of the time as well.

In many forms of meditation, you focus on one, trivial thing and concentrate all your thoughts on that single item or idea. It’s incredibly relaxing.

It’s easiest to learn to meditate under ideal conditions. Then, try expanding your meditation skills to other activities. You know you can really meditate when you can stay calm, happy, and focused on a loud, hot, busy, smelly subway. Don’t live near the subway? Try a long day with the in-laws.

Most of us focus very poorly. Imagine how much better you would feel and how much more you would accomplish if you could stay focused on the activity at hand. Plus, it’s hard to worry if you’re controlling the content of your thoughts.

3. Meditation can help you find answers.

what is the purpose of meditation 3

When your mind is running a hundred miles an hour, it’s difficult to find elegant solutions to your challenges. A brain needs a little space to find effective solutions to tough challenges.

Meditation can provide that needed space.

Have you ever noticed that many of your best ideas have come while doing something that occupies your mind in a rather mindless way?

Activities like mowing the grass, taking a shower, or driving down the highway with little traffic are great for solving problems. Your mind is occupied but free to wander a little. Meditation is similar.

4. Meditation can improve your health

what is the purpose of meditation 4

Stress is incredibly hard on the body. Meditation reduces stress, lowers your pulse and blood pressure, and improves sleep.

Meditation can be done quickly. You’d be surprised how much more you can accomplish and how much more enjoyable your day is when you meditate for a few minutes several times a day. Five minutes every hour is a great place to start.

Meditation isn’t just for a Yogi in India sitting on top of a tree. Anyone can use meditation to bring rest and peace into their life. It can also improve your performance.

Learn to meditate and enjoy a greater quality of life.

how to become more self aware

3 Enlightening Tips On How To Become More Self-Aware

How self-aware do you consider yourself to be?

Not sure?

Here are some self-awareness examples:

  • Are you aware of your strengths and weaknesses?
  • Do you know what kind of things trigger your emotional and physical responses in daily life?
  • Are you conscious of the opportunities and challenges that present themselves to you on a daily basis, and what your options are to overcome them?

Self-awareness is an often-underestimated skill that anyone can learn to improve with the right activities.

The more you understand yourself, the more likely it is that you’ll be able to reach your long-term goals, find happiness, and even strengthen your overall confidence and self-esteem.

Today, we’re going to be looking at some of the ways you can quickly and effectively become more self-aware and overcome moments of confusion.

Defining Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is the art of paying attention to the way you think, behave, and feel. It means looking carefully at patterns in the way you perceive the world, yourself, and the people around you.

Self-awareness also includes understanding your moods and emotions and how they influence the things you do.

Someone who is self-aware can pay attention to their actions in any situation and determine whether they’re really taking the best steps to preserve their interests, or whether they could be walking in the wrong direction.

If you have negative default responses to things, self-awareness can help you to overcome them. For instance, those with alcohol issues or cigarette addictions often benefit from becoming more self-aware.

So, how do you become more self-aware? Try these techniques.

why self-awareness is important

Self-awareness provides individuals with a better understanding of their own thoughts and feelings and empowers them to make more informed choices. Self-awareness can be disruptive to people’s lives when they are not aware of their behavior and the consequences of their actions. It is important to understand the impact of your behavior on others to help make the most of your time and to avoid any toxic effects on yourself or others.

Some Benefits of Self-Awareness

  • When you are self-aware, you are more likely to be able to save yourself from making mistakes.
  • When you are self-aware, you’re more in-tune with your emotions and how they are affecting your life.
  • When you are self-aware, you can know what your strengths and weaknesses are.
  • When you are self-aware, you can know how much you are contributing to society.
  • When you are self-aware, you can learn how to take care of yourself.

How To Become More Self-Aware

1. Notice What Bothers You About Others

This might seem counterproductive, as paying attention to others pulls the focus away from you. However, sometimes, when we’re struggling with our own self-awareness, we find it easier to project the things we don’t like in ourselves onto other people.

For instance, you might find that you absolutely hate it when others lie to you. However, if you look a little closer at your own actions, you might discover that you have a tendency to bend the truth too – even if only in certain aspects of your life.

Make a list of the properties you dislike about other people and try to focus on pinpointing the moments when you show those characteristics yourself.

At the same time, it may also be helpful to make a list of the things you like to see in others, so you can actively try to show more of those properties yourself.

2. Pay Attention to Your Thought Processes

Most of us have ingrained responses to things that we’ve developed over time. For instance, people who smoke tend to reach for a cigarette automatically whenever they feel stressed or overwhelmed. Sometimes, these processes are so automatic that we don’t even realize what’s happening until we’ve already done something.

If you want to be more self-aware, take a moment to pause the next time you have an automatic response to something. Be aware of how you’ve responded at that moment and try rewinding through your thought processes. What led you from the point of feeling stressed to opening your first bottle of beer, for instance?

Sometimes, it won’t be a specific thought or series of thoughts that led to the action, but a simple feeling, or gut desire for something. The more you make yourself aware of those automated reactions, the more you can begin to question them when you notice them starting.

You can also be more aware of the triggers that cause those responses to happen.

3. Ask for Feedback

Finally, asking for feedback can help you to become more aware of the things that others see in you.

Sometimes, we’re so used to the image that we create of ourselves in our own mind, that we actually replace reality with our own perception. We all have blind spots that make it more difficult to solve the real problems we have in our lives.

For instance, you might think that your biggest issue is that you can’t control your emotions when something happens in your relationship. However, your girlfriend might think that the problem is that you don’t talk enough about how you feel.

Asking for insights from others in your life allows you to view your actions and feelings from a different perspective.

Just ensure that you’re comfortable with the person you ask for feedback from. If you don’t like the person very much, or you don’t trust their opinion, then this is going to skew your perception of yourself even further.

Once you get the feedback, remember to take it well. Avoid looking at negative comments as a direct attack on you. Instead, see them as a chance to develop and grow.

You can strengthen your self-awareness by using these easy strategies. Once you do, you’ll find that, not only do you know yourself better, but your life also becomes more enjoyable.

how to become a meditation teacher

It’s Easy To Become A Meditation Teacher—Here’s How

It’s so easy

Are you ready for it?

Here’s how to become a Meditation Teacher…

Call yourself one!

There are no restrictions or regulations in place for Meditation Teachers and coaches. Anyone can become a Meditation Teacher by calling themselves as such.

The Meditation teaching profession isn’t alone as this is also the case for other professions such as Life Coaches, Nutritionists, Personal Trainers, and Health Coaches—and any other type of coach for that matter.

A Better Question Might Be—How Do I Become a Meditation Teacher That Can Transform Lives?

Since anyone, aged 2 yrs+ can call themselves a Meditation Teacher, how to become one probably isn’t the best question to be asking.

Sure, anyone can become a Meditation Teacher—but not everyone can transform the life of another in ways they couldn’t have imagined without walking the road of transformation through Meditation and then teaching it to another.

This takes personal dedication to master the practice of meditation yourself. Evolution into a calm presence—a catalyst for deep mental and spiritual shifts in another.

This my friend, cannot be done simply through a course from Udemy. You need ongoing practice and dedication toward your own meditation practice.

I have recommended a valuable resource toward the end of this post as a place for you to start.

On to the informal regulations of Meditation Teaching.

International Mindfulness and Meditation Alliance

There is a regulating body called the International Mindfulness and Meditation Alliance attempting to regulate the meditation teaching industry. However, their accreditation is not recognized by any country as a legitimate licensing body.

Because of this, the meditation teaching industry remains unregulated. It’s not mandatory anywhere in the world to be an accredited Meditation Teacher in order to teach meditation.

Is Accreditation Recommended?

Like many other unregulated industries, there is an ongoing debate about this. In the end, there are valid points to argue on both sides.

Getting certified through an International Mindfulness and Meditation Alliance accredited Meditation Teacher program does generally indicate the certification quality meets a certain standard.

Meditation is not something one can learn by watching hours of video and all of a sudden knowing how to teach meditation to another. It takes practice, lots and lots of practice. First, you learn to practice meditation yourself, then you learn to guide another, through practice.

It’s Your Choice Whether to get certified

Whether you want to master the art of Meditation Teacher through an accredited program or not is ultimately up to you.

Would I recommend calling yourself a Meditation Teacher without any high-quality training or ongoing practice? Absolutely not.

I surely wouldn’t want to be taught meditation by someone who has no training or received their training from a low-quality certification like what you can find on Udemy.

Do Your Research and Find a reputable certification

Luckily for you, I’ve done some research and came across an amazing, cost-effective, and internationally accredited Meditation Teacher certification.

Who is this post for?

This post is for you if you have a budget of less than $500 (payment plans are available for all programs) and want an easier time making a decision on which is the best online mindfulness coach/teacher certification for you.

I’ve done the homework so you don’t have to

If you’re like me and you hate the tedious process of finding, researching, and comparing programs then you’ll love this post. I’ve made contact with some of the providers as well in order to give you as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision

If you’re looking for a cookie-cutter, low-priced online mindfulness teacher/coach training certification program that can be found on Udemy, this post is not for you. Otherwise, dive right in

Introduction

I’ve been an avid meditator for years now. Although I haven’t taken either of the courses I’m recommending, as I currently have no interest in getting certified (maybe one day), I have been guided through countless mindfulness meditations.

As I researched online meditation teacher training certification programs, I quickly came to realize that there aren’t all that many options.

Most meditation teacher training certification programs are only offered in-person, understandably. Some offered a combination of both in-person and online.

Few programs offer online-only, and upon further investigation, even fewer appear to be extremely high quality.

If you have a budget anywhere between $300 – $500 (installments are an option) and want the highest quality mindfulness coach/teacher training certification available online, then you will want to stick around. I understand that this is quite a long post if you actually read it from start to finish, but I didn’t want to leave any stones unturned.

You’ll be able to compare the most important factors when choosing the right online Mindfulness Coach/Teacher Training Certification program for yourself in a head-to-head comparison.

I’ll cover all the pros and cons of each program based on extensive research. I have reviewed each program in detail, I recommend you read each review before visiting the website of each program.

Please feel free to use the comment section below if you have any questions 🙂

Word of Warning (Udemy)

I understand how tempting it is to get ‘certified’ on Udemy for $15 (some of them even off great info)—but if you want to be a great meditation teacher or coach, you need live practice plus feedback. Also, you want an extensive curriculum that provides feedback on your coursework, otherwise how else are you to know how you’re doing?

If you’re serious about this, and it’s not just something else to learn, I strongly recommend you do not cut corners.

Every course in this post offers live meditation practice sessions plus feedback on both your teaching and coursework. I will never recommend an online Mindfulness Coach/Teacher Certification that doesn’t offer this, nor would I choose a meditation teacher to work with that got their certification from Udemy over one of the legitimate programs.

Training Materials

  • 40+ videos
  • 30+ evidence-based guided meditation scripts
  • 30+ exercises and activities, and downloadable audio meditations, handouts, and worksheets.
  • These materials are divided into 30 teaching sessions, each session incorporates videos, exercises, and meditation practice.
  • The sessions make a comprehensive course (see full curriculum below) and would offer you all that you need to deliver inspiring and responsible meditation sessions.

Module 1 – Theoretical Knowledge

Meditation can have a far-reaching impact on your life. It facilitates a deeper feeling of peace and calm, while at the same time allowing you to engage with yourself at deeper levels. Additionally, meditation has been scientifically researched, and the results have clearly shown that the practice has important benefits. According to research, meditation increases psychological well-being factors such as acceptance, meaning, happiness and compassion on the one hand, and reduces levels of stress, anxiety, and depression on the other hand. This module will provide you with the knowledge and understanding surrounding meditation, including concepts such as “Presence”, “Authentic Self”, “Enlightenment” and “Awareness”.

Module 2 – Personal Experience and Practice

As teaching meditation begins with a personal experience of it, this teacher training course emphasizes personal practice, alongside the teaching of theory and exercises. You will be trained in a variety of meditation techniques in order to have an intimate and subjective experience of different meditation-based exercises. The list of meditation techniques you will learn as part of this module includes Intention Meditation, Breathing Meditation, Walking Meditation, Smiling Meditation, Body-Scan Meditation, Loving-Kindness Meditation, 1-Minute Meditation, and many more. This course would enable you to psychologically and spiritually grow while engaging with these meditation techniques.

Module 3 – Teaching Others Both Theory and Practice of Meditation

As you gain knowledge about meditation and learn the experience of meditation, you will realize how you could offer others a similar experience of expansion. By engaging with the materials on a theoretical level (module 1) and practical level (module 2), you will realize how to apply the techniques you have learned so that you could teach others. This module will provide you with practical tools that would assist you in teaching others.

Integration of the Modules

The three modules are not being taught separately; instead, the training continuously moves from one module to another, offering some theory, followed by practice and a teaching session, seamlessly integrating the three modules into a coherent experience. These three learning outcomes (and corresponding modules) offer a process of transformation. As part of this transformation, you will be able to gradually build higher levels of presence – being able to bring your awareness to the “Here and Now”. Meditation invites us to become more present in our everyday life. This course will offer you an opportunity to engage with meditation in a way that will allow that presence to penetrate whatever you are doing during the day. It will shift your mind from one that is constantly busy and scattered to a mind that is focused and connected to the moment. Finally, the course would enable you to share and teach this knowledge; there is great joy in inviting others to grow and transform.

Special Instructions

The Meditation and Mindfulness teacher training includes a number of special sections where you will learn unique approaches to mindfulness teaching. For example, the special section of “Mindfulness-Based Flourishing” will teach you how to apply mindfulness not only for stress and anxiety but also to increase happiness, meaning in life, hope, and resilience. Another special section, “Organizational Mindfulness”, will teach you how to apply mindfulness teaching in organizations. The special section of “Mindfulness Games” will teach you how to offer mindfulness through games, a highly-effective teaching technique which appeals to most students and clients. Those are unique teaching sessions and they reflect the innovative teaching we offer as part of this training.

Training Exercises

During the training you will complete different exercises to deepen your knowledge and understanding of meditation, you will also teach meditation sessions to someone you want to work with (friend/family/client) and then write a summary of your experiences and ideas below. Teaching. These are informal reviews that will not be rated; They are simply an opportunity for you to deepen the effects of the exercise.

Duration

There are 30 teaching units as part of this training, and each session contains a variety of videos, exercises, audio files, and handouts. If you take the course, the first session is open to study and practice. Another lesson every day. The session will open (session 2 on day 2, session 3 on day 3, session 4 on day 4, etc.) until the 30th day the last session is released, so the minimum duration of this training is 30 days.

You can study the course as an intensive course and complete it in 30 days, or you can take the time and complete it in just a few months as you wish. Whichever you choose, the course is open to you for 12 months. So take enough time to do it at a pace that’s right for you.

One thing you can be sure of — this program is created by a leader in his respective field of meditation and mindfulness — Dr. Itai Ivtzan.

I’ll admit, I had no idea who this guy was until I came across this program. After a little digging into his books, the reviews of his books, and his talks, I find his work quite interesting. There’s no doubt he knows what he’s talking about or that he’s a leader in his field.

Dr. Itai Ivtzan has published 5 books. HIs 2 most popular books are Second Wave Positive Psychology: Embracing the Dark Side of Life and Awareness Is Freedom: The Adventure of Psychology and Spirituality.

HIs only book (more like a textbook) on mindfulness is also his most recent: Handbook of Mindfulness-Based Programmes: Mindfulness Interventions from Education to Health and Therapy.

From my research, he’s been on Ted Talk 3 times! Here’s his talk called Awareness is Freedom.

Better to Meditate Before or After Your Workout? It Depends

Meditating before and after your workouts each provides its own benefits. That said, neither is better, it becomes more of an individualized approach depending on what you’re looking to get from the meditation at any given time.

I’ve meditated daily (almost) for years now and worked out consistently for 15+ years. I have 1st hand experience with how meditation and exercise complement each other.

I’ve meditated before and after my workouts and I’ll use this to give you my opinion on whether it’s better to meditate before or after your workout based on your personal needs.

Benefits of Meditating Before Your Workout

Reduce Stress

meditate before workout 1

Meditation is mounting evidence toward being a successful stress reduction tool. How can this help you have a better workout? Less stress pre-workout means less cortisol. Cortisol constricts blood vessels, with some side effects of this being lower oxygen uptake and tenser muscles. Less oxygen means less endurance and tenser muscles reduce the range of motion and increase the risk of injury.

Improve Focus

Meditate Before or After Your Workout

Meditation can shift your mindset from distraction to laser focus in a short period of time. Being able to work out without allowing your surroundings to distract and impact your workout is crucial for optimal performance.

I use this tactic with several of my clients who are easily distracted or show up a little scrambled. The difference between meditating or not pre-workout is undeniable. I notice they have improved coordination, balance, and overall performance compared to if they showed up in the same state and we didn’t meditate pre-workout. My clients corroborate my observations and many have asked for meditation to be a staple for me to guide them through before their workout.

Benefits of Meditating After Your Workout

Reflection

Meditate Before or After Your Workout

If you’re remotely serious about making progress with your workouts and overall fitness or health goals, reflection is a must. Just as an athlete is taught to reflect on their last game’s performance, you can do the same with your workouts.

Reflecting on your workout immediately after you finish ensures your memory is fresh and your mind is calm. Could you have done anything differently? Did you give up too soon at any point? Could you have approached the workout or any exercises differently?

These are just a few questions you can ask yourself. I encourage you to come up with more of your own to reflect on post-workout.

Ride Those Good Endorphins

Meditate Before or After Your Workout

As meditation lowers cortisol levels, so does exercise. Exercise also reduces adrenaline which is the hormone that gets triggered in fight or flight, making us feel high-strung. Lower adrenaline leaves you feeling calm and relaxed.

Exercise also raises endorphins that are responsible for giving you that “feel good” high you get after a workout. This feeling is temporary as you’ve probably already noticed. Take advantage of this time by basking in these good endorphins with a post-workout meditation.

Should you meditate before or after your workout? My suggestion

Why not try both? I’ve only listed a handful out of potentially numerous benefits of meditating either before or after your workout.

Sometimes science/theory and personal experience don’t have the same outcome. Try both multiple times and then try either before or after your workout, see if there are any differences you notice.

Comparison Table

Introduction

As I researched online meditation teacher training certification programs, I quickly came to realize that there aren’t all that many options.

Most meditation teacher training certification programs are only offered in person, understandably. Some offered a combination of both in-person and online.

Few programs offer online-only, and upon further investigation, even fewer appear to be extremely high quality.

I have first-hand experience with most of the teachers from these programs and can attest to the quality of their teachings. They are all some of the best in the world, hands down.

If you have a budget anywhere between $300 – $7000 (installments are an option) and want the highest quality meditation teacher training certification available online, then you will want to stick around. I understand that this is quite a long post if you actually read it from start to finish, but I didn’t want to leave any stones unturned.

You’ll be able to compare the most important factors when choosing the right online Meditation Teacher Training Certification program for yourself in a head-to-head comparison.

I will cover all the pros and cons of each program based on personal experience with 2 of the program providers and extensive research.

Therefore, if you’re looking for a cookie-cutter, low-priced online meditation teacher training certification program that can be found on Udemy, this post is not for you. Otherwise, dive right in

21-day technique for instilling healthy habits and raising your own permission
levels for success, well-being, love, and abundance. You will gain tremendous self-knowledge and confidence as you establish your own series of positive habits in a 3-week experiential journey, using self-hypnosis and mind-focused activities.

Note: For your self-hypnosis experiment, make sure to mark off a 21-day period on your calendar when you can commit to doing a cycle of change selected from the text e-book. This should be a time that you are not traveling or have projects that interfere with your ability to complete the 21 days.

Step 3: Spiritual Wellness Specialist Certification

This course is divided into 6 modules, plus you will have access to the business-building course “Essential Effective Coaching,” once you are almost done with the course materials for SWS.

Module 1: Anatomy of the Spirit

Discover the principles of metaphysical spirituality and the various levels of consciousness, Contains 4 subsections: a) At the Beginning, b) Faces of God, c) anatomy of the Spiritual Body and d) Non-Physical Beings (Angels, Fairies, Devas, Spirit Guides). Discover Spiritual laws of creation, the Hermetic Principles, Religion & Spirituality, The Divine Feminine, Introduction to the Monad (Divine Spark) or Oversoul, Chakras, Auras, and Energy Fields. Learn how to measure and repair chakras with a crystal pendulum, that we will send you as a gift.

Module 2: Awakening

We begin our exploration into the Divinatory Arts, discovering various tools that help you tap into and channel your innate gifts of Intuition and Insight so that you have clarity when working with clients. The divinatory tools are not designed to predict the future, but rather to open yourself to Divine Wisdom through symbolism and hidden messages. You will be introduced (with some depth) into reading the Tarot, Interpreting Natal Astrology Charts, Birthdate Numerology, and Crystals & Energy Balancers (Used for tapping into intuition, and review methods for employing Crystals and Gemstones for meditation, healing work, and higher consciousness). Fairy Oracle Deck provided to you!

Module 3: Afterlife

What happens before we take on a physical form? What happens when we complete a lifetime?

In this module, we will explore multiple theories of what happens when we die, the Bardo state, Soul Contracts, Soulmates, “Life between Life” Reincarnation, Mediumship, Disembodied Spirits, and Astral Planes, Parallel Universes, and the Seven Rays An illuminated understanding of Heaven, Purgatory and Hell — from a spiritual perspective.

Module 4: Alignment

In this module we will also delve into the concept of the “wounded healer” and how — as we work through our own issues and growth — we are better able to hold the vision for our client’s consciousness-raising and spiritual evolution. Understand the meaning of Empath and HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) and how they are particularly challenged in this world.

In this phase you will learn a philosophical paradigm to help your clients understand and identify how childhood programming, collective consciousness and the outer mind interfere in one’s self-image and capacity to realize one’s fullest potential. You will learn the concepts of Multiplicity of Selves, Jungian Depth Psychology, Archetypes, Aspects of Selfhood, Holographic Universe, and working with the I AM Presence.

Module 5: Application

How does one spiritualize their life in a modern world? Here you will begin to apply your newly acquired knowledge to work with your coaching clients. We break down the various stages of emotional and spiritual healing, including Law of Forgiveness, Creating Life Balance, Cultivating Gratitude, Taking Responsibility for Co-creation, and Spiritual Surrender.

We will add more healing tools to your repertoires, such as Visualization, Power of Affirmative Prayer, Law of Attraction (Manifestation) through engaging the Higher Self, Energy Clearing, Self-Protection, and Spiritual Hygiene.

Module 6: Action

In this final SWS module, you will begin to apply your newly acquired knowledge to work with your coaching clients as a Spiritual Wellness Specialist. You are given practical applications to apply all that you have accumulated through the previous modules in working with your clients, including some original healing modalities created by Dr. LJ (Jungian Archetypal Journey, and The Thoracic T®).
You can also download all the forms you may need for your coaching practice, including Coaching Agreement, Disclaimers, Intake forms, Client Contracts, etc.
You will also be assessed for competence and confidence in this final certification step, through recorded demonstrations and role-playing.

Natural Wellness Academy Review

I have personally been in contact with the founder, Dr. LJ. She is super friendly and I can feel her passion oozing through her emails. I get a real sense of hominess and genuineness from Dr. LJ.

She was completely transparent with me when it came to answering my questions. In my opinion, she went over and above what I had asked.

Here is a complete transcript from one of her emails:

Hi again, Rob – no worries!  Glad that you got the email and thanks for the kind comments.

There are definitely several aspects that set NWA apart:

  • The one-on-one mentoring is really significant for the students as they have someone to either cheerlead, counsel or motivate them to get through the program as well as finding an area of specialization or niche market.  All of our mentors are successful coaches and very upbeat people.
  • We take a very holistic MIND/BODY/SPIRIT approach and it’s kind of “impossible” for someone to go through our program and not have a lot of personal transformation and growth
  • We were the very first holistic health academy (2013) to add the Life Coaching – this really helps the graduates cast a wider net and be able to face a lot of the deeper issues that are behind eating and lifestyle habits
  • We do blended programs for incredible pricing and we can also create hybrid certifications for students.  For instance, we have one woman who is doing a “Mind and Manifestation Dynamics”
  • About 70% of our graduates go on to take another certification with us – I think this is a good indicator of the happiness factor of NWA students.

That should cover it – by all means reach out if you have any further questions.

The NWA’s Spiritual Wellness Specialist course has been a phenomenal highlight in my wellness journey. My personal spiritual growth and development continues to flourish and has allowed me to expand my spiritual perspectives and ideas and share them in digestible ways with family, friends, and through my business. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead in the class!  RD   Indiana

WEEK 1. WELCOME AND OVERVIEW

We begin by welcoming you into the community! You receive the Syllabus, the class schedule, and get oriented to the forum and the learning platform.

You will start meditating with our foundational 10-day Instinctive Meditation course.

Teaching Skills: Introduction and connecting with your cohort

WEEK 2. INITIATION INTO INSTINCTIVE MEDITATION

There is no one meditation technique that works for everyone, so we lay the foundation on how to discover your unique portal into meditation:

  • strategies on how to access your own unique doorways
  • practices to accept and welcome all parts of yourself
  • cultivating a compassionate and gentle style of meditation

WEEK 3. THE ART AND SCIENCE OF MEDITATION

Your body loves to meditate. Meditation is a completely natural and instinctive capacity of the human body and everyone can do it. We discuss:

  • the research on meditation and benefits of meditation
  • why 20 million Americans are meditating, plus millions more around the world
  • physiological responses that happen inside of our bodies when we meditate
  • the most common obstacles in meditation and how to handle them
  • 5 Essential Skills of Meditation Teacher

This week you will also receive your first meditation script and start practicing teaching meditation with your peers.

WEEK 4. THE WORLD OF THE SENSES

Human beings have more than a dozen senses, and they are all essential aspects of a healthy approach to meditation. This is the Indriya Mandala.

  • start using all the senses as gateways into meditation
  • discover the power of subtle movement and intrinsic mudras, and embodied energy practices.
  • preparing for your classes as a teacher

We also start creating a toolkit of skills and practices to learn how to handle everything that comes up in meditation – thoughts, emotions, sensations, etc…

WEEK 5. RHYTHM, SPONTANEITY, AND FLOW

A skilled meditation teacher learns how to cooperate with the student’s inner nature, not suppress it. You learn how to:

  • structure a meditation practice so that it feels spontaneous and natural
  • how ultradian, circadian, lunar, and seasonal rhythms affect your energy
  • opening to flow in meditation
  • how to do a movement meditation
  • ecology of sleep: how meditation and sleep are connected
  • how to open a meditation class

WEEK 6. THE PATH OF INTIMACY

The world of meditation is undergoing a radical renovation as it expands to include women and men of the 21st century.
In this lesson, we explore:

  • living in the Body of Love: intimacy, connection, sensuousness
  • the difference between the Path of Renunciation (for monks) and the Path of Intimacy (for householders)
  • how to bust old repressive ideals and tap into your innate, essential freedom and joy
  • why choosing life-affirming language is critical for meditation teachers

WEEK 7. INSTINCTIVE WISDOM

Learn how to recognize and honor your instincts –– the innate impulses of life that guide us to what we need to be healthy and thrive in our lives.

  • why honoring instincts leads to vitality and peace
  • connecting to your Animal Body
  • strategies to protect your energy levels (aura strengthening exercises, conversation on borders and boundaries)
  • meditations for low levels of energies (for exhaustion, fatigue, burnout, etc)
  • how to guide meditation using scripts

WEEK 8: ENERGIES OF EMOTION

Facing emotions in meditation is one of the biggest challenges meditators face. For mental, physical and spiritual health, it is essential to learn how to engage with the wild and peaceful emotions

  • 6 major emotions and how to dance with all of them
  • practices on how to center yourself
  • elemental energies in meditation (The 5 Tattvas: Fire, Earth, Air, Water, and Space).

BREAK – 2 MONTHS

During the break, you can participate in our optional twice-weekly group classes, and take other online courses with us (included in your tuition).

WEEK 9. EMBRACING DESIRE

The senses, instincts, and elements play through our bodies in impulses we call Desires. Skill in meditation includes accepting the gift and revelation of desire and emotion, and the ability to ride the motion into essence.

  • introduction to the 4 Purusharthas (Kama, Artha, Dharma, Moksha)
  • embracing and transcending desires
  • meditation and sex
  • how to adapt and customize techniques for your clients

WEEK 10. PRIMORDIAL POWER, SHAKTI, AND CHAKRAS

This week we talk about how to open to deeper connection with the field, your inner source, and the larger body of Nature.

  • tune in to the song of the chakras
  • access sovereignty and authentic empowerment
  • claim your inner authority and freedom
  • inhabit your full energy space
  • how to help your students transition from medititation

WEEK 11. INNER THEATER OF THE SOUL

Behind the persona, the face we show to the world, live many other selves. When we get in touch with those other aspects, we feel more whole and life gets a lot more interesting.

  • discovering Inner Parts and learning about Archetypes
  • Eight Acceptances principle
  • Moving Theater of the Soul
  • How to answer questions from students

WEEK 12. INTEGRATION WEEK #1

This is a week to rest and integrate what you have been learning.

WEEK 13. DEPTHS OF SOUL

We often think of spirituality as the movement upward into the heavens – transcendence. Its complement is often neglected, the movement downward into the depths of soul. There are times in one’s life when the call downward is a transformative journey.

  • meditations for difficult moments: the Dark Night of the Soul
  • meditation and depression
  • the enlightenment vs the endarkenment

WEEK 14. RECOVERY AND HEALING

In meditation, we are setting our own healing powers free to work on us. Human beings often need physical healing, as well as mental and emotional healing. Many of us may also know the process of recovering from trauma such as from loss, abuse or accidents.

  • practices for physical and emotional healing
  • meditations on letting go and forgiving
  • gateways into recovery

WEEK 15. SYZYGY – INNER UNION

A syzygy is a continual mating dance between apparent opposites. For balance and wholeness, we need to embrace both sides:

  • Yin/Yang polarity
  • a conversation on Soul and Spirit
  • earthy and cosmic, human and eternal
  • practice the high art of riding your energies into creativity and freedom

WEEK 16: INTEGRATION #2

Your last week to take a break and review the material that has been offered.

Learn a Softer, Effortless Method of Sharing Meditation

Personally, I’ve found that leaders are better if they can internally release.

True strength originates from our capability to be soft when we’re compassionately open and show those who find themselves all around us. Resilience can be our capability to bounce back and adjust to crises and stressful events. Our capability to cultivate true emotional resilience expands whenever we are grounded, connected, and aware.

Meditation is a dynamic practice that allows us to generate inner strength that people can figure out how to apply inside our everyday routine. When we figure out how to discover our center in the throes of everyday life, we become skillful at navigating periods of uncertainty and transition our clients often experience because they expand to another level.

In the LIBERATE course program, you can expect essential meditation ways to cultivate insight, focus, and flow. They teach a softer, effortless approach that emphasizes relaxation and creative visualization. The course offers you a chance to develop your own practice to enable you to teach directly from your experience. I’ve also found that this is actually the best approach to transmit the spirit of meditation.

Their integrative strategy gives you to skillfully develop the capability to be responsive in any given situation, fluid, and present. You’ll learn tips on how to apply “in the moment” healing tools for meditation and leadership coaching. You’ll also go through the power of coaching using a meditative mentality and exactly how it consistently allows your clients to receive higher insight, calm, and clarity.

People often ask “what is a meditation coach?”

Below is an excerpt from Sura, herself, answering this very question.

It is the way it sounds! It’s a combination of meditation and coaching. In this 16-minute youtube video below, I share more in-depth about meditation coaching and how I accidentally got started offering this when I was living in Los Angeles.

As a meditation coach, you teach people how to meditate. You learn about the people you’re working with and design a specific meditation program that suits who they are and their lifestyle needs.

As a Meditation coach, you do more than teach meditation, you guide others in realizing their true self. This includes their true desires and intentions. In the coaching process, you empower your clients to realize their deepest intentions, as well as achieve their personal and professional goals.

Meditation coaching includes the integration of meditation, coaching and energy healing to serve others in their process of revelation and goal setting. With this multidisciplinary approach, you facilitate higher awareness, insight and calm with your clients. They learn lifelong skills that help them develop resilience and true strength.

In a typical meditation coaching session, you would begin with a few minutes of mindfulness. This allows you and the client to show up o the same page. Breath and body awareness allows you both to become fully present, more relaxed and harmonized with one another.

In a more relaxed and heightened state, coaching becomes a natural flow. It’s less heady and more connected. By beginning with meditation, your client is more embodied and connected to their truth and authentic self.

In the session, you’re actively listening and asking questions. You can also combine meditation with coaching by asking coaching questions through a guided meditation session. We teach this skill in the LIBERATE training.

When your client is centered and present, they have access to more resources within them. Asking powerful coaching questions during a meditation session can evoke instant insight and realizations for your client. It is also deeply healing and calming.

Meditation coaching is a spiritual practice. You’re focusing on more than just the results, you’re also practicing presence and receiving the benefit of simply paying attention without attachment. Your client receives this and feels the benefit of listening and receptivity.

Just as you would observe your own breath during meditation, you observe your own breath and bodily sensations during meditation coaching. This informs you throughout your time with your client and can help guide the coaching process.

This unique approach to coaching is intended to raise consciousness and awareness for you and the people you work with. I hope this sheds more light on meditation coaching and how it helps people find calm, resilience and true balance.

Love, Sura

The special section of “Mindfulness Games” will teach you how to offer mindfulness through games, a highly-effective teaching technique that appeals to most students and clients.

School of Positive Transformation Review

From my research, he’s been on Ted Talk 3 times. Here’s his Ted Talk on positive mindfulness:

2 Biggest Myths About Meditation And Finding Peace Of Mind

If you have struggled with either finding peace of mind or starting/maintaining a consistent meditation practice then these are probably the same truths that you believe to be myths. They’re likely the same truths that are keeping you from finding peace of mind or meditation practice. I would like to clear the air for you in hopes that it will propel you forward.

After numerous conversations with people, I have taken notice of the same reasons that keep coming up as to why they apparently can’t meditate or find peace of mind.

2 Biggest Myths About Meditation

Myth/Truth #1: “I can’t stop thinking”

If you attempt to meditate or find peace of mind by means of stopping your thinking then you will be thoroughly disappointed, to the point that you will most likely want to quit.

Think of your thoughts traveling on a never-ending conveyor belt, doing loop, after loop, after loop. This conveyor belt doesn’t have an off button, nor does it even have a pause button, it loops infinitely.

Each time the conveyor belt comes around to you, it brings with it a random set of thoughts.

Some thoughts may be the same as you had just 1 minute ago.

Others may be regurgitated thoughts you had hours, days, weeks, months, or even years ago.

While other thoughts may be brand new, never ever seen before.

This conveyor belt runs on an infinite power source, as does your conscious awareness. This power source never dies. Even when you’re dead and your conscious awareness is no longer brought to life, this infinite conveyor belt will continue to run, supplying thoughts to the conscious awareness of others.

Nobody knows where these thoughts come from, some say God, some say the divine, some say our creator, some say the universal life force etc. What we do know is that they appear seemingly out of nowhere, like the magic of pulling a rabbit out of an empty hat.

Since we can’t stop the conveyor belt that delivers our thoughts, can we at least control it?

Myth/Truth #2: “I can’t control my thinking”.

If you meditate or search for peace of mind by means of controlling your thinking, once again, you will be thoroughly disappointed.

Now that you know your thinking will never stop so long as you’re alive and consciously aware, the next logical step for many people is trying to assert some form of control over them. This too, my friend, is a big myth.

This attempt to gain control typically comes from trying to choose which thoughts get placed on the conveyor belt or slow the conveyor belt down to slow down the rate at which your thoughts get delivered.

Just as we have zero control over being able to stop thoughts from popping into our head, we have zero control over which thoughts pop into our head.

You may now be starting to realize that you were never in control in the first place, that you just thought you were. This can be a very startling and mind-bending experience.

Surely we can slow down our thoughts, right? As far as I know, we can’t. However, we can most certainly create the illusion that our thoughts have slowed down.

I’m sure you’ve heard the expression “time flies when you’re having fun”. Time appears to speed up during those moments. Yet, when you’re bored time appears to slow to a crawl. This is the grand illusion of time.

When we’re stressed, panicked, overwhelmed, or in any similar state of mind, we are under this illusion that our thoughts are racing at a much faster pace than normal. Confusion tends to set in and we’re bouncing back and forth between thoughts.

When we’re peaceful, happy, content, or in any similar state of mind, we are under this illusion that our thoughts are slowed.

We can drive two different cars at the same speed and feel like we’re going faster in one car, and slower in the other. How is this possible? We use cues such as noise and vibration to estimate the speed of the car.

We use similar cues when we feel like our thoughts are moving faster or slower. When we’re in a state of stress our thoughts appear quite noisy, creating the illusion that noise equals speed. When we’re in a state of peace our thoughts appear to be much quieter, giving us the illusion that quiet equals slow.

Now That You Know This…

I hope this helps cut through the illusion of these two myths. Keep in mind that you are to observe your thoughts, you’re not trying to control them or stop them. The paradox here is that you gain some sense of control by relinquishing your attempt to control.

By understanding that we were never in control in the first place and still made it this far, seems pretty amazing considering we were probably oblivious to this all our lives.

How can this understanding change your life now that you are aware of it?
